They could give them a low engine cap but a high speed boost quirk. That would allow them to go decently fast while paying the jump jet tax which eats a significant portion of their 20 tons. That plus making them fairly tiny would result in a usable mech.

I kinda doubt Stackpole was advised of which mechs were in HBS, he might've just looked up cheap mechs and figured it out.

I don't think he looked anything up. Pretty sure he could quote those mechs from memory at this point. :)

and just because it's not in a game, which represents a single slice of the universe, doesn't mean it should be kept from the fiction, unless the fiction maybe is specifically related to the game setting.

Lore Commando has the same movement template (6/9) minus the JJ's as Wasp and Stinger and it goes fast enough to compete. I think it would all come down to size of the mech for viability. Unlikely to be meta but could be fun and viable.

Anyways, are these HBS novellas available to non-qualifying backers (I am apparently the level just below getting them)?

There are actually a couple Wasp variants that I am down with. Two that I can think of (both have ~6E hardpoints).. if we got those, I might even get it.

WSP-1W is the must have, WSP-3W is okay as well.

With our new weapons, can mount more firepower than we're used to now too.

It can compete because its 5 tons heavier and doesnt have to sink any tonnage into jump jets.

Why do people think it's a Wasp, why not a Phoenix Hawk ?

Why do people think it's any closer to being a thing, than it was before the Backer novella update. ?

Having said that, Wasp Wasp Wasp Wasp STINGER Posted Image

Well my point is not about it being IN the Novella, but on the COVER. It is clearly a new take on the Wasp. And it is the Wasp and NOT the Stinger as the passage describes perfectly what is on the cover, and the paint scheme as well, Black with silver highlights where the Stinger was Red and Black.

Again like I said, it may be nothing.......we will see. And it may be HareBrained's first foray into doing their own mech design on classics.

Well, you don't HAVE to sink any tonnage into the JJs if you don't want to.

Wasp ain't no Omnimech, mate.

Neither do the Wasp and Stinger, thanks to being battlemechs they can drop them, gaining back 3t for weapons/ammo/equipment...

STG-3G
WSP-1W

Both look about as viable as a Locust to me.

Sure, but why would you take a wasp over a commando or a stinger over a locust if not to get those jump jets?

That -1W... I'm pretty down with that. 5-6 SPLs and a JJ or 2? As long as it gets the 190 engine cap that is...

head doesn't wow me and I dislike that it grew a right hand. Very unWaspish. But it's decent. I do wonder how the Stinger looks..

Have you bought the Combat Manual: Kurita yet there Bishop? The Mini-TRO gives a much, much better look at the new classic styled Wasp.

The Wasp 1W does everything the Locust 1E does, but does it with JJ's, because it would have nearly the same engine cap. See my above example of the WSP-1E.

Likely 170, if using the standard formula.. But whom is to say that PGI wouldn't give it the same cap as the Locust?

Separate games so it's not unlikely that HBS will add their own mechs to Battletech that aren't in MWO.

I hope all the Btech mechs come out! Even more I hope they keep the old school art work for each mech! The marauder model made me super sad :(
