Crates, like similar gambling mechanics in other games, are basically aimed entirely at the 'whale' players.

Which means players that put a rather low value to their money, so part with it easily, even when given as bad a deal as those crates.

Basically, if they have mc consumables as an option, I won't open them, those get sold instantly. Others, depends on what I might get.
My favorite is winning a single key, thus netting me nothing, since it took a key to get one. (in effect, I just lost 50K cbills)
Since most of them seem to have the consumables, yeah, I get a bunch of 50K cbill chunks.

It just a bit funny that with respect to these crates that PGI seems to hang onto the digital content within like it was real stuff.

They could increase the possibility of winning camo, paints, and other MC valued materials to the point that people feel it's worthwhile to open them, spending money, because of a great opportunity to get something they value, but they don't.

They are digitally tight-fisted.

Yeah, it's strange to me that they literally poison the proverbial well by offering terrible common options like jump jets. That coupled with the odds themselves makes it so that many players are dissatisfied with them and either avoid them like the plague or only use the keys and MC that they get from events. And I'd wager that of the folks that don't mind buying MC to buy keys to open them, most aren't exactly excited with the results overall. So, ignore the oddball outliers and at best people are "meh, maybe I'll get lucky eventually" while at worst there are probably people who are like "I hate everything about supply caches and PGI can go pound sand" and are actually less likely to buy MC as a result.

Camo/paint/patterns/etc would be nice, but PGI would probably make those at least rare or ultra-rare, which probably wouldn't change anything when it's all said and done.

I just find the entire scheme bizarre. I have no doubt that there are players that bleed off a ton of MC on an individual basis opening these, but I can't imagine that it's worth it in the long run considering the number of players that have a completely negative reaction to the current implementation.

Opened 16 supply crates that had built up since my last MC had run out and got almost nothing of any consequence, some 14 weapons varying from about 50k-200k in value, 1 day premium time and radar deprivation, which I guess will be nice in refunded XP or c-bills if/when that happens.

Ah well. Feels better after griping a little here.

I never open one unless there's a chance at a mech I would play with.

I like opening the crates, they're the best MC to Cbill exchange in the game on average. I just hate getting stuff like cockpit items or consumables though since I already have cockpit items to spare and never use consumables.

I only open them with free keys I get and I just keep the ones with mechs or mechbays and sell the rest.

In the beginning nearly every crate contained a Mech. For the last 2-3 month I have not received one crate containing a mech. Do you have the same impression or were there changes made I missed?

My rule of thumb is: Open crates containing valuable Mechs with keys I won. It´s not working anymore without mechs in the cratesPosted Image

I opened 40 just recently, mostly founded by MC got during Lucky event, i got 1 orange thingy (c xl 300), 100 mc (2x50 which ware oddly blue ), 3 of strikes, uav and collant 18,1 premuim day, rest was c-bils, weapons. Which would make pull the worst so far.
There ware quite few cashes were blue awards ware minority (like one or two), still got pulled..
So i might save and collect Mech ones, but others will be sold from now on.
Side note, i got 3 supply cashes in less then 24 hours from grand opening.

Agreed, the crates seem a bit "rigged" in how they function, I think honestly it is not random, seems the item is selected upon being given the crate, and there is a massive list of crates that only give basic weapons.

It definitely seems that way after opening several crates with only 1 or 2 chances out of 6 to have crap stuff, and getting the crap drop most times. I play real life chance games enough to see bad "RNG "patterns like this, if its not how I described it is something similar, I would wager.

Slightly off-topic, but any word on what's going to happen with all the modules in unopened caches when modules go away?

I am sure if you had googled "mwo Skill tree cache modules effect" you would have found one of the dozen other times ive answered this, but if you havent done that. last version of ST PTS they were being replaced by Decals, your welcome.

When you buy a crate in CSGO and open it you get a weapon skin. Some weapon skins are worth thousands of dollars while most are worth 1 cent. At the end of the day you open a crate and you are promised a weapon skin.

MWO's crates are very lackluster and don't offer any really great prizes, I don't believe they need to spice it up with thousands of dollars worth of goods but they could raise the price a little and eliminate the really crappy prizes and people would be much more willing to gamble on them.

Take out all the omnipods, weapons and other crappy prizes, put in colors, decals, camo and heroes, then raise the price to 100MC or more and we'd be opening every one we got.

There willingness to give cockpit items and entire Champion mechs in Lucky Charms and Christmas events shows they have the capacity to do it.

I still have all 4 keys from when they launched and I've sold dozens of crates.

Anyone who is opening them now is a rube- an easy target.

This is the first and ==only== F2P game I have seen that requires you to buy a key just to open loot or crates.

I'm not expert because I haven't touched it in years but Team Fortress 2 has crates and I think you have buy keys? I've never opened a crate for any game on steam.

The omnipods and weapons are the reason why I open crates in the first place, they are almost always worth considerably more than selling the box they come in. I can't sell colors, decals, or camo. Heroes I doubt will be common enough to matter. Why quadruple the price on the best MC to Cbill conversion then remove all the stuff with resale value from it?

People are acting like they're supposed to actually get the good stuff out of those boxes outside of 1 in 100 or higher chances and mad that they aren't making millions on a 25 mc payment rather than seeing the boxes for what they really are and doing the math.

Also with the CSGO weapon crate analogy, you have to spend about $2.50 on each key in that game and you're far more likely to lose money by getting a cheap 2 cent skin you could have bought 100 of for the money you spent opening the box it came in. You may get a weapon skin, but what people are looking for are the good ones. Getting a cheap skin in that game is like opening a supply crate here and getting nothing while getting a super rare skin is like winning a full Clan wave I pack.

Is this the only F2P game you've played? Its really extremely common that you buy a key to open a box to get some random prizes, usually in the 2-3 dollar range and usually the stuff commonly gotten is more worthless than the lowest tier weapons you get out of any of MWO's crates.

Uwotm8?

Why not just spend the MC on buying credits instead of risking "wasting" MC on the chance of perhaps getting some cbill value over just selling the crate? You spend MC to get access to minuscule amounts of C-bills???? Posted Image
