I love Battletech. It's one of my all time favourite sci-fi worlds, and I've enjoyed it for years. Recently though, when I think of playing it, I think of the new skill tree, sigh, and then do something else. This might not make sense to you because it's not even a main part of the game, but then you're missing the point. I'm sure you've heard, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". The skill tree wasn't perfect, but it was ok. What wasn't ok was the tons of standard mechwarrior features that weren't part of the game, like mech bays, non mech vehicales, mechs falling down, etc,...

I get that making new mechs is a good way for the corporation to pay for the game, and they do add flavour to the game. But so much effort on something that already worked instead of filling out the game after so many years just depresses me. I don't believe anymore that the developers will get around to it. Add to that that you have to now pay to go up the skill trees, even if you can grind to do so, and it just depresses me. So I play less and less, because what was once a joy, now makes me sad, and what's the point to playing something that ultimately disappoints?

I don't believe for a second adding mech bays, or even helicopters would have been harder than the effort put into revamping the skill tree, and either of those small changes would have dramatically changed the game, making it feel new again. I have just a little hope left for this game, please don't keep letting me down.

There is no new skill tree.
It has been indefinetely postponed.
And yes the thing we got atm was never ment to be there that long...there was no efford...it was only a placeholder system since CB...like so many other things till PGI would have the ressources to implement a real skill tree....one upgrade and specialisation tree for every mech and a general skill tree for your pilot to specialize on a branche...as scout arty man or whatever.
The skill tree was meant to be the anchor point of one of the pilars of the game aka Mech warfare, information warfare, community warfare and ROLEWARFARE.

I was realy realy excited to see even the still too convoluted and simplyfied thing they wanted to implement because it meant change.

But than whiners and minmaxers poped up all over the place and PGI cringed and cuddeled into their save spots and delayed yet an other possible addition to the annemic and dryed out gameplay.
