Could we get a no duplicate rule instated for this ranked mode? While balance changes will help alleviate the diversity issue with comp, as Overwatch players learned. This would also help greatly regardless of whether the format is tonnage or class based.

Concur. Or at least limit to one incidence akin to MRBC in each drop (alto to be fair, I'd prefer a straight up no dup rule).

Sounds good, and hope they do block mechs that havent been out available long enough for their non hero variants to be available for cbills too.

That was asked in the Comp Roundtable, and Paul said he noted the request.

I don't remember that part, only remember the no paywalled mechs portion being discussed.

Paul also acknowledged he was going to look into FP/CW dropships breaking everyones legs occasionally at random in twitch chat last roundtable, that was over 90 days ago and we've heard nothing in 3 patches notes.

I think that was me that poked him about it... and if I remember, it sounded like Paul didn't understand what I was asking, and it was the end of the stream, and he was leaving. >.<

These are just one and done type drops right? No series or best of?

Correct, would've been cool to see a best of 3 at the very least to make the best of the search time.

Yeah that would be really good actually.

Also, like the no duplicates or one duplicate rule.

Did they actually come out and say that pre-order mechs and hero mechs were a no-go? That is kind of a drag isn't it? Always like making my teammates jelly with new shineys (more often than not its "haha you sucker Gas, that new mech blows").

Correct, which I have always supported and actually one of the reasons I'm really glad Mag asked it.

Sure it is disappointing you can't use new shinies, but so is not being able to use said shinies for comp because you don't want to shell out the cash.

Don't know why this is an issue... since comp players don't spend money on the game, thus we wouldn't have pre-order / hero mechs anyways

They didn't say anything as a definate they said they would think about it. I have no problem with people getting to use hero mechs in comp, once all other variants are available for cbills.

I applaud the concept of no duplicates, but if your concern is "we only see the same four mechs", you have only changed this to "we only see the same eight mechs".

Unless this is a multi-drop campain (for example, best 2 out of 3) with the no-duplicate rule being applied across all the matches, there is not much gain.

I think duplicate rules like MRBC are boring and pretty arbitrary. People just use the next best version of the same thing. Instead of the same four mechs you'll see the same eight. It's not meaningful and it limits the viability of niche decks that don't have as many overlapping options. Without a tournament client this year (come on PGI) it also makes it much more difficult to get drop decks together.

If you want to see more variety you need to get more creative than that. I think Star League's drop rules have been great for allowing weird stuff see serious play and giving asymmetric decks the chance to play off against each other. How you'd make something comparable for 8v8 I have no idea.

I believe in the end the rule you'll want to see is something along the lines of:

Variants / Chassis can only be used 'X' number of times within a series of drops. After which you'll have to use another mech.
Or, something along the lines of League of Legends' Champion bannings.

'Mech X gets destroyed in Round 1, cannot be taken for Round 2.

No. That just favours snowballing. If the underdog had a chance to win a series, but they lost the first match, now they can't bring their best mechs to the second match and win the upset. ggclose
