Yes. That is correct. $70+$70+$70+$50 is $260. BUT, that gets you 20 mechs, 4 special mechs, 4 hero mechs, and 28 mechbays. Not to mention warhorns and other cockpit items, nor the colors and patterns, nor the decals, nor the C-bills if you order early. Oh, and the premium time as well...

$500. IGP, PGI's backer at the time whom has since been bought out by PGI, pressured PGI to make the Gold packs. However, it came with all the original Clan wave 1 mechs possible, which was of $240. Thus, making the Gold mech limited edition technically cost $260 in actuality. It did include the mechs, bays and other goodies as well.
PGI claims (and has not so far) to never be willing to make anything like the Gold packs again. So far, I'm going to believe them on that, but even if they do it again I wouldn't blame them. It's just more options for those players whom have the money, and wish to help support MW:O.

That's just there for the whales. People who need to have all the shinies and don't mind spending real cash. Although the cockpit items with bonuses on whatever mech you put them on. That's just dirty tempting me like that. But I can't justify it even all the extra goodies.
I'm disappointed they removed the 30 days premium time from the basic $20 versions. It made them an easy justification over purchasing just premium time.

I'd be down for a golden urban'mech, tho.
My opinion, if people are willing to buy it (which people where), I say go for it. It's not a "must have" and it provides no advantage in a match. I see no harm in PGI having expensive things, because some people would love to put money into the game.
However, some people complain about it, and site PGI as being "greedy" when they do stuff like that. They are a business, out to make money. Why shouldn't they have things like that for anyone who may want it? I certainly don't blame them, but don't expect me to purchase any either...

I can see the disapointment, but at the same time... What else would encourage you to go Collection status besides the Prime/a variant with a 30% C-bill boost?
PS: Last loyalty program (PGI's/MW:O's anniversary "event") was dependent upon having two or more Collection level packages. Though we don't know what may be up for next year, it probably will require collection level packages to qualify. Something to consider, but not count on.

I'm thinking from a poor man's perspective. As someone who really has to weigh the purchase of mechs versus whole other games. The premium time was just an easy justification for doing so. Now I doubt I'll spring the cash for any of those mechs in any form. Shy of winning the lotto. At which point I would rather start my own game studio ;p

Actually, I want to support PGI and MWO with my money, and I'd be totally OK to pay a monthly subscription to this game.
So when I have the cash, I buy MechPacks, usually the basic ones that I upgrade as I go.
Yes, it could be "cheaper" to buy the items ingame, but I don't have the time to play all day anymore, but I do have more disposable income, so my CHOICE was to use my wallet instead of my time.
When I played on eVe online, I had four accounts and did sessions of 12 hours per day ... this first month I paid my subs, and then I could amass enough ingame cash to buy PLEXes to pay for my games with ingame currency ... cannot spare that kind of time and dedication anymore, LIFE got in the way of my addictions.
Seriously now, without some way to make cash flow in the coffers, NO game developpment studio on the whole planet can continue to function. They have employees to pay, servers to maintain, bills and more, and all that takes money.
If no one ever bought a MechPack or a Collection, PGI would have closed the game 3 months after launch.
Don't diss the Whales, *THEY* are the ones that allow you to play for free ...

I was really agitated, i haven't bought a pack but i did bought a lot of MC for about 10 heros. I spent a lot more cash on MC then i would have needed to buy 3-4 basic packs (which would have given me several "loyality" rewards.
Instead i "only" got the potatoe blackjack.
That is something PGI really needs to look into next time. It can't be that 100$ MC is "meh" and 80$ packs is "omg, thank you for supporting the game!!".
I honestly felt like a 2nd rate customer.

To mention it...
"Collector" edition versions are 20 dollars for just one mech, and its a variant you will already have. Then 15 is for two or three additional variants (usually 2) beyond the base 3. 15 for the Hero (that's usually worth it). 20 for the base 3 (though one of the cases due to being a light mech is only 15, its hero is ten and its reinforcements are 10, the collector there I think is another 15).
In an F2P game you're never expected to buy 'everything'. So just get what you want. The selection is there to entice more people to buy, and the ultimate packs are not discounted, just a one time purchase (handy for those who are overseas, it cuts the individual exchange rates on the per purchase fees).
Just snag a basic and a hero or maybe a few basics. There is no need to collect everything, I mean if you do then why would you play to earn cbills... if not to buy mechs rather than shelling out money from your wallet? Reinforcements don't really make sense to me because if I get "all the variants" of that chassis I have nothing left to strive for.
This said:
1) I no longer believe Collector models are worth having -- they haven't been since the Urbanmech, the last collector model to have unique Geometry. After that it is just the paintjob and cbill bonus, even with the extra premium time and other nonsense... No unique Geometry, no interest from me.
Atlas: Standard. Unique Geometry Founder collector. Unique Geometry Loyalty collector.
No unique Geometry, not enough value for me (if it was half price compared to the three pack, so in total a 20 dollar three pack plus a 10 dollar collector, I'd be all over it), but it being an extra 20 with no unique geometry... nope. This is a personal opinion but I hope I'm not the only one to stand by it.
2) PGI does not have a publisher, meaning not only do they need to make money to keep the lights on and the employees paid, but also to further the development of both multiplayer MWO and upcoming singleplayer MW5 Mercenaries. (The sales of which will again return to help develop MWO further). As it stands until MW5 Mercs is released, PGI is a development studio trying to survive on a single game. No studio has ever done that and cannot do it for long. As such you're going to see lots of mechpacks to try and get more purchases to help them keep going until they can at least get that second game into the field.

the "gold Mech" origionaly was supposed to just be for a single gold Mech, IGP (the publisher at the time) eventuraly caved to bad press and put the Masakari (Warhawk) pack in there as well, but when the page was first released it was most certainly $500 for the gold Mech and an extra $240 for the Masakari pack if you wanted it.
in 2014/2015 PGI were increasing the value of the packs, now they are reducing them, and have reduced the value to less than the mid 2013 Phoenix pack, Resistance 2 was the best value pack with extra varients on the early adoptor bouns, $20 per tier, top tier ($80) if ordered before the cutoff giving 16 varients, 16 Mechs total, 4 each of 4 chassis, one of which was had unique cammo and a cbill bonus, 2 months premium time, 36 paints, 6 cammos unlocked for the Mechs purchased with the packs and 18 cockpit items.
Compaired to $80 spent on Civil war giving 12 Mechs, no premium time, no cbill boost varient.
I am currently out of work so unless I find a new job and get my first pay packet before the end of april I will not be preordering any Mechs from the civil war pack, if I was in work I would definately buy the Uziel and probably also the Mad Cat MK2, basic packs, but if they were offering premium time and a special varient with the standard pack and I was able to afford to do so I would have definately purchased all the Mechs, by reducing the value of the packs PGI are almost definately loosing sales they would have made otherwise, I do not know if those are countered by the people who are spending more.
sorry about the minor rant

I know i was paying 2 accounts for years.. these packs are pretty cheap by comparison. This game, i only spent 150 bucks over 4 years,.. untill i boosted 2 accounts with a top level pack to get a bunch of colors and mechs last fall, even Still at 350 and 4+ years is a pretty good deal on an online game.
But if you really want to spend a little money, and get a nice return, your best bet is to buy a year premium on sale, and then grab mech bays. Id say buy the 100 dollar MC package next time it is on sale and then wait for a premium sale. Pick up a hero or 2 as well. I'll just add that picking up a package that has a good selection of mechs reduces the grind big time. I really wish i had bought those packages a year prior.. Would of saved me money because i would not of spent MC on colors, or extra bays.
resistance II, wave III and origins IMO are the best deals because of all the extra's. this new package, just isn't doing it for me, very disappointed in how the cougar and annihilator looks too, take on the bushwacker, and i have not liked the direction the art has gone at all. (javelin excluded) I wonder if a new person is making the mechs..

And there are still some (really good) games that work on that principle : UO, eVe (with a new F2P option), WoW ...
I've been paying 13 euros per month per account for my 2 Ultima Online accounts for years now, our Guild will celebrate it's 20 years of existence in september ... some players here are younger than that, and never knew the days of monthly subscriptions ...
Free To Play has created a slew of "entitled" players that never had to pay for the privilege of login in, and now they moan about every single expense ...
But once more, without a cash flow, a game studio is DEAD ... and their games too.

That's fine. Just don't be like some other bitter people. Don't assume because you paid for mech pack that it entitled you to more than the mechs and your opinion. We get a lot of that. A lot of people saying "I dropped $1000 on this game!"

Oh don't worry, as long as I actually get the goodies I paid for, I'm good. I'm a "veteran", on many games, been playing MMOs in various forms for 20 years, but I'm not "bitter" yet

Yeah, that tends to be more Mechwarrior veterans than regular gamers that have been through it with other games. They have all the nostalgia built up in their minds about how great it was and how it should be. And it tends to go to their heads.
