It's always better to provide some constructive feedback to new players rather than tear them a new ****, but god is it painful watching new people aim(or try to) from spectator mode. It's like watch a paraplegic trying to color between the lines. Cringe worthy.
I was newly T4 a couple months ago and the last mech alive in a Crimson Strait Conquest match (Pirate's Bane). I'm on the spawn cap near the island and the enemy team makes a beeline for me. I think it ended up being 2v1 or 3v1 with me going 165kph in circles trying to hit them as best I could (I've since heard that you don't turn nearly as well at 100% speed as you do just using CC at 80%-90%?). I knew I was going to get rekt quickly, and there were still a few teammates who were staying to watch me get schooled. I die and I'm waiting to see if someone is going to tee off on me, and instead I get the simple comment along the lines of
"Dude...you really need to turn your sensitivity down if you want to hit anything". No anger in the guy's voice, no /rage rant, just a comment right before the end of the match. I think the player was
JIgglymoobs but I'm not 100%. I just went to settings, saw I was at around 50% already and went somewhere down around 20% or so and fooled around in testing grounds a bit.
I think I only remember it because I was somewhat nonplussed. This was probably the first of only 2-3 times I've ever been given any kind of constructive criticism or feedback in this game. 99.99% of the time it's either complete silence or light banter, with an extremely small number of people making ***es of themselves. I mean, I appreciated it because I'd like to think that it helped make me suck slightly less.

Tier 5 players should stay in tier 5, then everyone is happy, this is on PGI.
I'd be willing to wager an even million that PGI would consider separating the tiers from each other completely and calculate PSR differently if they had a high enough player population to allow it. And that's really the elephant in the room that I see in countless threads on these forums, similar to how it appears in regards to so many other online games.
That's the #1 issue facing PGI, IMHO. Player population. If they could increase the player population by even one order of magnitude, they could afford to address a lot of the complaints people currently have.
TL;DR: You're right, in that it's on PGI, but I don't think there is much else that PGI can do unless people want wait times increased by a large amount.
