It's only realistically doable if you're on the same team (not necessarily unit), but a lot of those behaviors can be learned by watching (including specing after death) and asking useful questions.

Asking why H10 on Alpine is strong (for Skirmish/Assault) while having experienced being on the receiving and giving side of things and not connecting the dots doesn't really get a good response.

Asking when is the best time to not NASCAR in a pro-NASCAR map is actually a good question.

Indeed it is... but only if the others present deign to listen when asked... and then of course, the rest of the group actually listens to any reply, if given. It's actually fascinating how organic and non-linear the "potato problem" in gaming, tends to be.

But, end of the day....? Human nature is that douchery seldom actually incites to excel. Usually it incites to rebel. There is that small percentage of folks that do seem to only respond to being torn down, but that is the exception, and to expect everyone else to conform to that is quite frankly, foolish.

Does that make me special then?

Quite possibly. Sports Psychology tends to point toward uber competitive people having validation/approval issues growing up (hard *** father who pushed you to always be better) which also tends to equate to a similar attitude to theirs, especially toward those "less dedicated". I wonder if there are similar parallels to gaming/e-sports?

I'm sure there are studies somewhere.

That said, in most of the cases in sports and even military training, the host of issues and breakdowns that come with such training and environments, seems to hardly recommend it for long term health and adjustment.

So, IDK... are you special? Or are you just good at playing a video game? (In this aspect, not lookign into your success in life in general). I mean... define success at playing a game? To me since the point of a game is to have.... fun? (Which, coincidentally is not how I approached sports growing up, those were an outlets for violence, which seems to be a relatively common concept for players in games today, too. Are we in a generation where the video game has replaced the traditional sport for many in need of validation, etc?)

Are you special though? IDK.

You missed what I meant, which is fair given I didn't really give context XD.

I meant that's what got me to be good, because a notoriously good unit also happened to have bad attitudes back in MW4 when I started playing. Them being a**holes is why I am a comp player now because I wanted to beat the bad attitude out of them (ironically this is the same reason I was drawn to SJR even if not everyone in the unit is the best at keeping their attitude in check, looking at your Errodien). In this case I guess I was incited to rebel AND excel, which is why I asked was I special :P

Kid getting bullied who started taking karate lessons. So far though, in your favor, you have not turned into the bully. That would be the mark (IMO) of what makes one special in this little picture. Because it seems that more often than not, the bullied either stay cowed, or become bullies themselves, in response. It's actually a small percentage who "stands up and doesn't become".

Not sure where I fit in this picture. As an autistic kid over 6ft tall by the beginning of 9th grade, I drew my share of ********. And yet to this day, I generally just want to be left alone to do what I enjoy doing. But more than a few learned not to push the issue too far, and of course, football gave me a great outlet for anger. That said, oddly it was toward the end of the "Official" MW4 era that I kind of gave up on competitive game play. I was still young enough and had good enough reflexes back then.... but...just found I didn't find the constant drama worth it for a damn video game, anymore.

Now, I'm over 40, have crippled hands and a computer that would take being called a spud as a compliment. You know those Potato Buds fake dehydrated potatoes, just add hot water? That would be a good analogy to my current system. But I just don't find spending the energy to be that driven on things that quite frankly mean absolutely nothing... to no longer appeal. I'd much rather use that same drive and energy to improve my breath hold and stamina for free diving, which actually improves my physical health, and puts dinner on my table, and play video games when I'm relaxing and recuperating at the end of the day.

Yes. Tangent. Aspegers. Deal with it. ;)

I don't act like a bully unless someone tries to bully me into doing something stupid in MWO, and I think that's fair.

And I can say that for most of the NS folks that I play with on a regular basis as well. Deathlike doesn't bully other players either, he just complains to the rest of us about what the pugs or WE (most of the time its the rest of us) did wrong. Its just the way he is, I think he is wrong sometimes, but whatever, my skin is thick enough to not get bent out of shape just because I hear someone's [incorrect] criticism.

So put that in your potato frying skillet with some salt and oil and fry her up, Bishop Posted Image

Who said Deathlike was a bully (especially in game)? I've said he's a **** (and he often is) and I'm sure the feeling is mutual. Doesn't mean he's always wrong by any means, either, though how he posts his piece often leaves much to be desired (IMO). That's a whole different story. No, in game, the issue is certainly not him bullying people... that would actually require him to deign to interact with his non NS teammates at all.

Pretty sure our somewhat... confrontational "relationship" is hardly anything new.

And fried potatoes are for amateurs. You might be comp in the videogame, but obviously NOT in the kitchen.

I actually enjoy making a Portuguese-rice style quinoa with onions, garlic, tomatoes, and some other seasoning as my carb of choice lately.

The fried potatoes have become somewhat of a tradition whenever my wife and I have some old friends over for a beerfest or some other event (saute onions, add garlic and potatoes and seasoning), they go well with eggs, bacon, and being hungover.

Anyways, how Deathlike says his piece here is an extended version of what we get on Teamspeak, he has some points to be made, but can't say I always agree, especially when he tells me that I did something wrong. Not interacting with others on VOIP, that isn't true for a lot of us (by us I mean myself and most of my teammates), I will definitely relay important info or suggested movement on VOIP frequently, and most of my teammates I know will do the same, Deathlike doesn't use VOIP often that I can remember but I'm not sure if its because of the elitism you are making it out to be. Either way, its obviously not a unilateral problem of good players vs bad players, and I recognize that isn't what you are saying, but still, you may by painting that brush a bit too broad.

Would not be shocked if you are correct. I can only base on the info I have, and quite likely have extrapolated beyond that.

It' is what it is, I don't realyl lose any sleep over it, I just try to "report what I see", which tends to rile some folk, and yes, can be wrong, too.

More interesting is the quinoa dish. I'm generally on a low carb diet, and have a limited selection of grains here in Mexico, usually, at least affordably, so mostly wild rice here for my carbs, to go with lean meats like fish, and veggies, in various combinations.

The quinoa I make is actually a derivative of a rice dish my mother's aunt used to make, the rice is much tastier, but the quinoa is supposedly good for health... its a give and take, kind of like MechWarrior Online balance.

yeah, I've never developed a love for quinoa, though I have used it in salads, oatmeal, etc. And have been considering adding more dishes with it.

Well my bad. So a "Potatoe" is actually anyone who does silly things, and are especially "potatoey" when they know better and do it anyways? OK. Why did someone not just say that before.

All we hear on here is how some poor Leet player got f'ked over by some guy they describe as a Noob aka "A Potatoe" driving what has to be a non Meta Comp build. There is no way a old timer would ever do that right? Posted Image

Well thank you. I now have a new appreciation for the term "Potatoe". Everyone who doesn't play MWO the way some other person wants them to play MWO. Got it. Posted Image
