So why isnt it possible to unlock a module using a combination of Mech XP and the remaining balance using GXP?

Use All Of Mech Xp And The Remaining From Gxp.

If you mean unlocking the master tree with the extra one module slot, It is either full XP or GXP. Just how it is.
If you mean unlocking modules such as Raderp, PGI wants you to farm GXP. And due to sheer amount of GXP required for modules, PGI wants you to invest in Premium Time. Which translates to money for PGI. Just business.

No i'm saying you should be able to use both. Lets say you have 2499 mech xp and you need 2500 to unlock the module. You should be able to use all 2499 mech xp and use 1gxp to make up the difference so you can unlock it.

Yeah. Always wondered about that. It is either one or the other. It feels weird after playing World of Tanks/Warship where you can use the EXP on your tank/ship and then the rest from free XP.

You're talking about bleedover?
Where your primary use of payment is short so the rest of the cost bleeds over to a secondary method of payment to compensate.
Then if so. Yes, I think every game should have it.
