No, the Heroes do not offer pre-order bonuses.

And I do see yours. I don't claim that PGI's current approach is the correct approach - but it is their approach and it was for years. Releasing other Mechs which make a Hero duplicate build possible does destroy the entire buisness model they did stick to so far. All i gotta say to this.

But ok, whatever.

I just want them to refund my cash when they do change this. Because that's just a bad way of bait and switch, nothing less or more. Which would be worse than p2w. Because you can decide to not be part of p2w if you want. Not that MWO would be p2w in my opinion. Rip off is rip off.

Generally, you buy Heroes for the Cbill bonus
So, you'd be losing all those mechs on a refund (and will have to buy them with Cbills)

Having 4 lasers go to 6 lasers is a distinct advantage, however

But it's not that simple and you do know it. There are many other limitations such as type of laser and everything that comes with it such as heat generation, range etc. Omnimech rules put even more restrictions on any new possible build. Never heard of a build that does not use full available tonnage.Question is where did you put the tonange that you do not use to fill up those two hardpoints and what advantage will it give you compared to the 6 energy hardpoint build - if you are not willing to support the game with real cash you are so invested in you even claim to belong to the "professional and competitive" scene?

It is that simple
Myth Lynx can bring 6 SPLs (and easily 6 ERSLs)
It doesn't because there aren't enough hardpoints

It cannot bring more than 4 lasers, or 2 with ECM

I don't support the Game because PGI has repeatedly shown incompetence where things matter.
They haven't made a good enough effort for me to open my wallet again
Shooty Stompy Robots is still amusing however, so I'll stick around until they ruin that.

Right, read them. So, to clarify.

So I get what you're saying, but no. If they release an OnmiPod with the same configuration, that it still not the Hero OmniPod.

So I see your argument, I just think it's weak, because most "Hero OmniPods" are replicas of normal ones anyway. If they were all unique? You'd have a leg to stand on. As is? Not so much.

Not to be confused with the Champion mechs which are just the regular mechs. In the case of Omnimehcs they are just bits and pieces of the other regular mechs.

Heroes do tend to have something unique to them.
A different engine cap.
Different hard points.
Different placement of hard points.
Then the stuff like the XP/C-Bill bonus, camo and having a name and some sort of history.
Nothing overly special.
But cool to have one, particularly if it's for your favourite chassis.

By the way, what are we actually paying to win?

Based on the lore reference the owner got a sex change to boot. Or maybe "Vesper" is just his drag queen name? Apparently the guy spent a lot of time playing referee on some backwater trial planet, that kind of boredom could lead to some interesting things.

(A tacky neon ebonwhale used by a super-religious, cross dressing Clan diplomat? Now I definitely want one, it'll go great with the purple lbx direwhale)

Man.... the writing back in the 80's was something special wasn't it.
Can't do that these days. "Curse you politically correct hippies!!"

So you think Summoner Side torso shoulder energy weapons is a good thing? enjoy your real money mechs and 5% of current population to play with if game continues down this path you will only have other people with the same pay to win hardpoints to play against and 1 hour quick play queue times.

You pay to get to play the stuff for MONTHS before anyone else gets to use it, its been, 12 ??? months since that pay to win summoner shoulder came out and the whole mechs been nerfed because of it instead of neg quirking that shoulder for PPC's. It should be the same as mech packs, you get to get it for cbills 4 months later.

Don't get confused with the difference between the hero, champion and regular variants.
You can't get the champion mechs without paying MC.
It's only the regular mechs that get released for c-bills at some point down the track.
Never the hero mechs.

ALL the hero mechs have something different to them that the regular variants don't.
We can't have rules for one set of heroes and not the entire rest of the list and quite frankly, I'd rather we get new things added instead of suddenly getting the developers to go back and rework a whole bunch of mechs again.

And again..... what are we paying to win?

MC, € and $ should give you a boost in C-Bills, XP or LP.

But it should not give you (better) options a non paying player does not have.

All modules for C-Bills please. For great justice!

Some cool looking skins (which is the main reason to buy hero omnis, no?).

Well for me the C-Bill boost is the only reason. Most hero skins look to Solaris 7 for my taste and not what I think a combat unit let alone a clan warrior would field (besides maybe some "special" Nova Cat units - I do not know if they use their psychedelic paint scemes for ceremonials only or even field combat).

And therefore a huuuuge THANK YOU to the art team that finalized camo pattern options on the Invasion Omnimechs rounded leg geometry! Posted Image This is so great gals & guys! I did really suffer way back when I was stuck with what I consider race car pattern and only two color channels. I was so happy when finally camo options did arrive and arranged myself with the fact that the special geos would stay black. But now I read the last patch news and saw this! It's beautyfull! Thank you so much and keep up the good work! (Maybe some day we can have the option to use this geo on non invasion omni mechs to?)

Also - can we please have 4 digit numbers please? It takes up half the decal slots to apply unit numbers and for some reason in some cases it is impossible to create even sized numbers. Below the "7" in "267" looks always to big to me when compared to the "2" and "6". When downsizing it the "7" appears to small to me.

Not even the meta build for the Cheetah uses the max 6 energy hardpoints and is run with 5 CSPL to keep the heat bearable. You can run the Mist Lynx with 6 CSPLS and cook yourself for sure. You can barely run it with 4 CERSL and be heat efficient enough to win a dogfight against any IS light or a damaged whatever-weight-class as of now.

Also, the "dreaded" Mist Lynx? The traditional laughing stock of the Clan lights? The bad example? Slowpoke? Gotta need way more than better ways to overheat to proof pay to win claims.

The competitive ACH uses both 5 and 6 lasers, it's personal preference. On occasion, it has also run cERML and cMPL for specialty decks. For my money, I have used five cSPL for Drop 1 MRBC since I favor a bit more staying power in that brawl. For a later drop where it's more hit-and-run due to larger alphas and more armor all around, I would go with six because the punching power is more valuable than being able to maintain output in a brawl.

As something of a MLX connoisseur, generally it's not the weapons that keep the MLX hot, it's the JJs since they generate their own heat there are two more than on the ACH. You'll be able to run six cERSL pretty well, five cSPL decently, and maybe five or six cHSL pending implementation.

That being said, three cHML will also be a thing, so I'm not terribly broken up over the MLX pods. Being able to ECM with 4xE isn't really a game changer for this thing.

I tend to post with an attitude of typical customer superiority, bitching that PGI isn't doing this or that right.

I think we all need to keep some perspective. This is a niche game with a small audience. Small enough I sometimes wonder if they actually turn a profit, which then makes me wonder how long the game keeps operating for us to play if they aren't getting enough income from players.

At some point, I will buy a Clan hero mech not because I want a 30% c-bill boost or special hardpoints, but because I love Mech Warrior and want to do my part to contribute to its ongoing success.

Those Summoners are everywhere, nearly everyone playes them, and when they do they always show off godlike performances - unmatched and unmatchable by any other Mech in the field. All because of those two sidetorso energy hardpoints.

You obviously didnt play vitric boreal or sulphorous in the months after launch.
Everyone willing to spend money to pay to win this game was playing them, and nothing came close in efficiency at poptarting with those velocity quirks at that time. Why do you think summoner got nerfed after that torso pod not before if the problem was the same when the ppcs are arm mounted ?

Because people payed real money for what you would get for free.

What do you call a mech pack............ you pay to get it 1st, the unique camo's and cbill/xp bonus's

View PostW E N D I G O, on 06 April 2017 - 09:44 AM, said:

Those responses are for AT THAT TIME, when those mechs went live, the omnipods wouldnt be available any other way, no where does it say indefinately unavailable for cbills.

View PostRampage, on 06 April 2017 - 10:11 AM, said:

...Do you realize that those WILL be available eventually for c-bills or MC which you can win during events? So, if you do not want to pay for them then you can wait and get them for free. Also, as fearsome as the Summoner with the Loyalty side pods is, the Night Gyr is even more fearsome and it is free if you grind the C-Bills.

PGI is in the business of making games. To continue to do so they must make money. If you make stuff and give it away immediately then no one will buy it. No money, no business, no game. You do not have to pay to support the game if you do not want to but if no one pays then you do not have a game either. Do you see why there is a need for PGI to make you wait before they give you all the good stuff for free?

If any of these omni-pods turned one of these Mechs into the best Mech in its weight class then I would be right there with the mob yelling "Pay to Win". But the fact is, none of them make the Mechs that much better and the Mechs that had that potential, such as the Arctic Cheetah, got no help from the Hero pods. No one is forced to play any of these chassis and in every case there is a better alternative that is free.

Pay to optimize? Sure. OK. Pay to Win? Not until they make a pay only hero that is better than the best Kodiak, Marauder IIC Night Gyr, TimberWolf, Warhammer, Battlemaster, Grasshopper, Griffin, Huntsman, Hunchback IIC, Arctic Cheetah and Locust. You want to win more? Play those.

Paragraph 1 Soon.tm been 6 months since launch and 2 since nerf making it less p2w and more balanced, so when is fair to you.,

para 2 pt 1 no ****. pt2 yes.

and you also need to release it eventually or lose people for the 'whales' to play with causing them to close their wallets anyway due to queue times / lack of people to play with. I have no problems with a 3-4 month wait, its been longer than that, im even happy to spend 600ish MC for the pod (pre summoner nerf), id still pay 2-3mill cbills for the omnipod.

para 3 disagree Night gyr didnt have ppc velocity quirks, summoner you didnt have to worry about travel time or low arm mount angle issues.

4. dont think timbies or warhammers have a place on that list.

Well, the Black Widow is considered the best variant by some; it was even popular in MRBC until they stopped allowing Hero 'Mechs and it saw a lot of use in MWOWC. With the nerf to UAC/5 heat, I'd classify it as superior to the WHM-6R at what both of them are known for: dakka power position and push.

Now that they've nerfed Warhammers in general, though, hard to say. Doesn't change its standing relative to other WHM, but the WHM as a whole isn't competitive with the NTG.

I certainly prefer the MAD, but I don't know that I'd call it better. It has its own set of issues that have only gotten worse due to de-quirking and rescale.

It was in a good spot as it launched. Large flanks were still vulnerable, but a good pilot could make even the MAD-5D as capable as a brawl TBR. Then they killed its mobility, then its missile refire and velocity, and then it got big. It's not actually that far off from the MAD-IIC in size.

Still love it, but it caps me.

but hey ECM ferret ^^ thats going to make scouting a load more fun.

But you seriously should consider hero pod for f2p options, otherwise sooner or later p2w issues may appear.

There are 2 bonuses to pre-ordering, from the FAQ underlining the extra items:

Quote

Q: What is the incentive to purchase these Clan Heroes now through the website, rather than waiting for their release for purchase with MC?
The price of each Clan Hero represents a significant savings compared to their eventual cost for direct purchase using MC. The inclusion of 1 Mech Bay and Standing Cockpit Item with each Clan Hero further increases the value of a Clan Hero purchase compared to their eventual MC purchase prices.
While these Clan Heroes will become available for purchase with MC on February 6th 2018, the inherent value provided from purchasing a Clan Hero through the website makes it the superior avenue for acquiring these 'Mechs.
