Russ on the new heroes and nerfing as needed.

The thing that Russ seems to be missing is that the problem isn't just the raw power level of the pods for the most part. It's mostly just the fact that those pods are pay-only.

For example, adding a C-Bill version of the MLX 2E right torso would be good for the game as a whole...just don't lock it behind a real money paywall. Nerfing the hero MLX to not have ST weapons anymore doesn't fix the MLX's problems in general.

The P2W is that without forking real life cash, you'll never have access to them and their advantages. This is one of the most sacred pillars of F2P.
Same happened with the hero lol-cust.

Sacred? Screw that!

In the end, nothing man-made ever stays sacred. Posted Image

All the "better skill prevails" comments are kinda cute. Clueless, but cute nonetheless.

And all those who think "comp" and "pro" are actually real things in MWO are even kinda cuter. Even more clueless, but cuter nonetheless. Posted Image

Pay to optimize? That might be different. Some of the new Heroes have nice Omni-Pods, that's true. For people paying for the 'Mech, it's a nice nod to their contribution. For people looking to squeeze every last drop of advantage from a chassis, you might have to (le gasp!) open up your wallets. Even if you don't though, I'm pretty certain you'll still be able to compete just fine.

I am of the view that "serious" players do open up their wallets.

Well since you've never been part of a competitive team I guess you would know best ... Posted Image

Does it matter? I am a mediocre pilot at best and currently in T2. I recently got the idea of mastering Hellbringers even though I do not like clan mechs. In a non basiced Prime I do damage in the high 300 and 1 or 2 kills per match (on average).

Compared to the difference between an unbasiced mech and a mastered one the performance gap between the Hero and the best free Hellbringer would be non existent so if I an average pilot like me can almost close the former, then the pods will be a non issue.

The Scorch is P2W? I have found the other variants to be better at everything except brawling. JFK? Jade Kite? I guess that one lets you do the massed UAC2s better... haven't tried that yet.

Scorch 2xlb20x, 4xsrm6 is quite possibly the most fun exploded faces mech ever in the game.

Not P2W but I was being facetious. However if you don't have a Scorch.... get the Scorch. Especially in QP is a hard mech NOT to have fun with.

My phone turned KDK to JFK and I missed it. While it got needed a bit later the KDK3 and SB were pretty solidly OP at release.

Do we have to have this discussion involving wild speculations every time PGI releases announces a new 'mech?

Do all F2P games die once they go P2W, or do all F2P games go P2W once they start to die?

The reality is that mediocre players like a bit of P2W. It helps them pretend they are better than they are for a bit of money. P2W is having an advantage because you paid money over someone who doesn't. A 30% cbill/xp bonus doesn't really create that, better hardpoints/quirks/performance does.

There is no logical justification for it save catering to people who want to be able to pay money to have an advantage over someone who didn't pay monry. Not because they have more skill, just an advantage based on the money they spent. Saying "well they wouldn't spend the money if it didn't give them an advantage" is just acknowledging the reality that some people suck at the game and are happy to spend money to create the illusion that they don't suck as much.

Hmm. Do I detect a hint of sheer resentment of the 1%? Posted Image

In MWO, I admit: never.

But, real life is another matter altogether. Heck, how else can I afford flying First Class?

So go ahead, knock yourself out, and enjoy your so-called "comp" experience in MWO. I'll enjoy mine in real life and have another mini-vacation at Easter weekend after just coming back from one this week. Posted Image

Self-loathing And faux guilt.

I recognize when someone is trying to sell me something to appeal to having more $ than time. It always tweaks me when I see someone else buying in to that. It's also such a bad idea for a game.

I say put up or shut up.

If you're talking "comp"...think about it in real life terms...again, put up or shutup. If you want to be the most competitive and most viable...you want the best gear, thus you have to pay the piper, if not...well you're not very competitive now are you.

If you can't pay, well sorry, you made your bed, you chose your crap career, to have a million kids, to buy that car you can't afford....ect ect ect...now sleep in it.

Shoot guns? Do you not pay for the best ammo, chokes, rails, and optics...
Race cars? Do you not pay for the the best fuel, manifolds, gaskets, heads....ect...
Gaming? Do you not pay for the best videocards, monitors, keyboards...ect...
Any sport? Best nutrition, best shoes, best gear of any type, be it gloves to socks or spikes...you pay.
Name anything competitive, if you want the best sh!t...pay up.

I don't' understand what the issue is here.

This goes beyond epeen to straight... peen. I could bring my real life skills/accomplishments into the MWO forums, but I don't because nobody cares. Pat yourself on the back though, real impressive!

I already did, with a bottle of Dom. Brennan's did not have any Krug available, and as such I was a wee bit disappointed.

And oh, if you noticed, I did not really give much in the way of details. I'd rather let people stew that way. Posted Image

And finally, **** e-peen. It really means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Even two isn't that bad, especially not if both have income or you have the equivalent...

But maybe my perception is warped.

So the thread went form P2W discussion and its impact in the game, to a commentary of one's RL socioeconomic status as it applies to their potential competitiveness in a game.

And now what...a bad episode of Gilligan's Island where Thurston Howell the III is having a dream that he got off the island and is back to his globe trotting ways, drinking Krug and gallivanting all over the world with Lovey, playing MWO in the executive lounge between stops.

This is certainly a new one.

It used to be certain folks talking about what big tough guys they are in RL, or the exotic locales they live in, or their awesome cars that they pretend to drive. But wealthy globe trotting playboy is a new one for these forums.

Hey Mystere, with all your extra wealth could you give PGI a loan and maybe help em fix the game? I'll pay ya back with all my RL gold bullion and diverted UN money that I stashed away during my time as the Marco's bagman back in the 70s. Trust me I'm good for it.Posted Image
