Hi guys,
just seeking if anyone can give me a clarification of what happens with an engine critical hit.
Does the engine have health and damage is assigned to it or does any critical instakill it?
Thanks

the engine does have health and crits assigned to it and it can be destroyed by crit damage however at current that has no effect on a Mechs performance.
you can have the engine destroyed and keep functioning provided all torsos containing the engine remain intact your Mech continues to function as if the engine is undamaged
the way the game is coded only loosing a side torso when the Mech has an XL engine hurts the engines performance

There currently is only one way to apply criticals to engine - destroy a component with engine slots in it. As engine needs 3 criticals to get destroyed destroying a side torso with IS XL engine applies 3 criticals (equal to the numbe of engine slots in the side torso) to said engine and destroyes both engine and mech. Same way destroying a side torso with clan XL engine in it applies 2 criticals to said engine, but since 2 crits aren't enough to destroy an engine a clan mech survies the loss of a side torso, but does suffer heat dissipation / speed penalties for such loss. These penalties are arbitrary and are not linked to a BT crit system in any way.

The way engine crits are applied.. I should say, are not applied in the game... is one of the heavy discussions surrounding the lack of parity between the technologies since PGI has not introduced a fully functioning engine crit system with a more functional heat scale.
