[Gas Guzzler]

In light of its domination in my poll here, I have just started some theorycrafting for this big beauty.

FNR-5B: 2 Gauss, 2 ER PPC (both in RA), 5 tons ammo, 13 DHS, endo, LFE330, ECM, legs at 64, left arm at 6

Essentially a KDK-3 Clone with similar hardpoint heights, but goes 57.5 instead of 66-69 like the KDK-3, but gains ECM.

FNR-5: 2 Heavy Gauss, 8 tons of ammo, 1 ER PPC, ECM, STD305, 10 DHS, legs at 64, left arm at 6

More alpha than the olde faithful, but much shorter range and goes 53 instead of 57.1... also depends on the specs of Heavy Gauss. I wonder if 2 Light PPCs would pair better with Heavy Gauss.. Its lighter, but might need to go into the other arm. Could always run that on the -5B though.

FNR-6U: 4 Heavy PPCs, 19 DHS, LFE350, endo, ~64 leg armor, ~36 arm armor

Pretty nasty.. this one doesn't get ECM and has the PPCs in the chest, so they are more or less cockpit level. It has a ballistic in each arm, but without hardpoint inflation I couldn't think of a good way to utilize them. Dual gauss goes better in the other variants IMO, but you could easily run the -5B build but backwards.

Fafnir is a really nice upgrade over the Annihilator for any non-dakka loadouts. Those are the three variants that will have tech that we have access to, so PGI will have to come up with a couple variants and a hero. They could base the hero on Peter's Fafnir, that has a RT Ballistic (HG), 2 LT ER LLs, ECM in CT, and 3 RL10s in the LA, LT, and RA (9 total), with a MPL in the head and each arm. It has a compact gyro that would have to be dropped, it made room for a C3 slave and another RL10 in the CT, but otherwise, that would be an interesting hero!

All in all, pretty excited thinking about this mech, and I think Alex would make it look great. Make it happen PGI

I said you could do that but I already worked out that build on the -5B. Sorry I didn't want to put the exact same build on that one lol. It would also have to go slower and/or drop a DHS or 2.

Gah, I missed it, sorry.

I think it would be better on the 6U, though, because Gauss in arms > gauss in torso, letting you XL with it (ha, puns!)

4x HPPC is super generic and can go anywhere. Might as well put it on the 5B.

Well, there are ups and downs. Who knows how XL unsafe the Fafnir will be, so even without explosive torsos, it might be a bad idea. The -5B also has ECM and tighter convergence because it makes use of one arm instead of both.

You are right Heavy PPCs are generic, but with the cockpit level chest mounts it seemed like it would feel really good. There are actually a lot of options on the 6U but it depends where hardpoint inflation goes, as with all of these. They all make use of the base hardpoints so there are several things that will likely be options once we know what they get.

Just to be clear, it will probably be good on both the 6U and the 5B.

Nah. Not gonna work. 2 UAC10s and 2 Heavy PPCs maybe... but it will be hot as balls.

(Possible with XL300, LFF, 5 tons of ammo, 15 DHS, VERY HOT! and slow, and XL..., should be able to up engine to account for 2 DHS and take endo and maybe get up to an XL350 though, shame that the Annihilator can't do that! haha)

fafnir without HVYGauss is a sadfnir, and without critsplitting it's gonna get stuck on a slowass std which makes it even sadder .

On a serious note though, i'd probably steer clear away from the heavy-gauss-rifle, to a sensible 2x Gauss + 2x ERPPC, or something else lighter and smaller that i can put it with an LFE.

unless the fafnir isnt added which was the whole point of me saying "im fine with it not being added so the annihilator gets used"
