Flamers have 90m range, stop making a joke out of yourself, OP, and L2P.

OP might need to fish for some other excuses to explain those stats other than b33f pwning him twice.

As someone who regularly uses (and frequently scores with) a flame nova, I find this thread golden. The main challenge in playing it is learning to take advantage of circumstances:

- Primarily, I feed on isolated and/or unsuspecting innocents. Ambushing mechs in push points works well, and lurking by cap points in Conquest also gets me my headshot fix, since they're less likely to have dudes watching their backs.

- Situational awareness on the part of the victim would hurt me badly (especially if he's an assault): if I can't get within 100 meters, I go home hungry (and probably also dead).

- I have to hope that my victim will obligingly alpha me and overheat himself, since my flamers will only help him out. If he staggered or held his fire, I wouldn't be able to shut him down and chew out his delicious little cockpit.

- If I have the luxury of identifying my target, I can decide to engage based on weapons loadout. High energy builds are more likely to be heat-incontinent, but stone-cold ballistics are trouble. Missiles are easy too, but they sting.

However, I usually smell out enough fresh meat to collect a few heads in only about a dozen matches. I suppose it helps that I bring a trolly/kamikaze mindset to the table as well; on several occasions I've sacrificed my mech to score on a large, fresh target.

i dont think this is a real issue,
1) Flamers can only get you to 90% heat, which is only a problem if your a Light and dont have HeatSinks
2) they dont stop you from fighting back, they only weaken your alpha(most AC20 builds can still fire)
3) they only have a 90m(99m with Module) range so they are extremely short ranged,
4) any more than 4Flamers are useless as they lost Enemy Heat Gen Efficiency at around 4,
5) its a NVA its already a slow medium + a short range weapon,
(personally running into a 12SPL+4MG NVA would scare me much more)

Can you explain this a bit more detailed? Against Laserboats with 24+ DHS i found it hard to heat them up in time with only 4 Flamers in my Viper. With the 6 in my Nova it felt much more reliable. And you also need less time to overheat 'normal' mechs thus enabling you to heat up multiple targets before your flamer gauge gets red.

I came across one the other day and double gaussed it in the face and it started to run away only to get an allied mech's alpha to the back armour. LoL

from what ive tested 4-5 seem to be the best for heat up,
against enemies with lots DHSs it gets harder to heat up yes, but ive experienced a loss of efficacy past 5,
when testing it was 1Flamer(x1) 2Flamer(x2) 3Flamer(x3) 4Flamer(x4) 5Flamer(x4.8) 6Flamer(x5.4)
im not sure if this was just me, or the game not registering it all, but thats what i got,
(a 6Flamer NVA will heat up a target just as fast as a 14Flamer NVA)

I had a game with a build like that sneaking up on my ERPPC LBX10 CDA-3C.

Guess who won. I did. Targeted him so I got some LRM support raining on him. Fired just the LBX until he shut down, then took that laser arm. He got legged by LRMs, and I finished him off. I got a nice KMDD out of that deal, he got a 4 damage game.

I really think this is a gigantic cop out on PGI's part of almost Neville Chamberlain proportions. Fire suppression is a thing and yet of all the places where suppression is frowned upon it just has to be in a war game (even if it is a fantasy-based one).

I frankly find it laughable.

I use a Flamehawk. 6 flamers and 2 MPLs on the PXH-1K. Real fun being that guy.

I remember when this joke of a build was being done when Novas came out years ago... it was crap then and it is still crap today, be ashamed of yourself for dying to a troll do not make a thread broadcasting your shame to the general public.

HOLY S**T FLAMER OP THREAD, FLAMER OP THREAD!!!

Spoiler

I thought I had seen it all with a "Locust OP" thread, but this result is unthinkable, inconceivable, absolutely mind-bogglingly impossible!

So I figure I'll just go have a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, and then compete in a one man bleach drinking contest.

Good day.

To be fair, the forums were on fire with "Flamers OP" threads when the rework first hit the servers, and that predates "Locust OP."

I've had 2 matches with sub 20 damage because of this **** stain build coming up on me and basically one shotting me.

So lemme get this right.

You some how managed to let a mech bet to within 90m of you and you

1. Didn't maim it first
2. Didn't kill it
3. Didn't just move away from it
4. Didn't call the target out for the team to take down

LOL. Yep, it's the Nova's fault alright...

3 flamers and 6 medium pulse. ISSPL doesn't have enough oomph with just 6.

Still, not even close. 6 flamers overheat almost momentarily, while with 3 you may need your target to shoot hot weapons twice, which makes it much less reliable.

Just to clear things up, I LIKE flamers as unreliable and occassionally amazing they are (still remember one match when two flamers allowed me to destroy two assaults 1on1 in the tunnel on crimson with NCIX centurion Posted Image )

The problem is, clan flamers are basically TWICE as good as IS flamers (both due to weight and availability of energy hardpoints). One should get buffed, or the other nerfed. For balance

and we alos get lrm OP regulary too, MWO is a shooter based game where knowing the mechanics is 60% of your skill, and many people don't know wmuch about the mechanics. Thats why they horribly fail in many of it's situations.
