...every new hero was a big deal. Video trailers made, story written and anticipation created around each hero mech. Those days, heroes felt like real heroes. I still remember the Flame and Fang video and the Misery video so so well... they really told a story and made the heroes feel like real heroes.

These days... man... its "Super Hero Bargain Sale"... it doesn't even come with wrapping papers anymore...

I remember the days without internet forums. You just played the game.

I remember the days when to play a multi person game you had to go outside the house and run with your IRL friends.

There was a time when decal limits were more than just 6 layers, which is almost literally every other game out there.

More layers, more primitives.

As with pretty much everything in this game.. it's been stripped down to the bones.. no fluff, no flare, no immersion.. Why?

Who knows...

Maybe it's lack of directions, overworked devs, lack of love for the lore, e-sportification, or simple neglect.. who knows..

And it would really not take much? Just some descriptive text, maybe a nice promo video... some nice post on the forums.. and a legend would rise..

But when you bulk-sell "special snowflakes".. nobody bothers to create legends.. the only thing that matters is selling the new "content"

This saddens me.. Posted Image

Not to be "that guy", but, it is impossible, because technically the first internet page/post ever was kind of a forum like construct

Exactly what I'm saying. The stripping down of the game to the barest minimum effort for maximum profitability... hell, most of these immersion things don't even require programming skills to do!

Yes, the blue screen BBCs... miss those times.

PGI has a dream IP to develop and a strong community that was practically handed to them on a platter. So its really frustrating to see them keep phoning it in like they do. Its fair to say they ran over their reputation with a tank column in the past, so if I were them I would be pulling out a few more stops to win it back before MW5 hits Steam and its community review.

As to the first question:
Maybe it is not a lack, but rather an excess of something...maybe ego? Who knows? But I am sure someone knows best.

As to your second question:
Not much at all. It would take a writer, or lacking funds for a writer, they could have the community do it. We all know that there are some talented lore nerds around here who would happily do it for free. Could even make a contest out of it. Get some free publicity/marketing and create some goodwill. Nah.

Alas, this sort of thing is clearly just not a priority...at all...for PGI.

Edit for comment:

Actually I'm kinda working on something just because.
So, question. Prefer the title Battle Labor or Patrol Tech? Or PatTech?

(If it isn't obvious, a hint in the spoiler.)
Spoiler

Back on topic, I remember when this was MechWarrior. You got your stock unmodifiable loadouts and liked it!

Battle Labor sounds the best but is also evocative of "Fighting Monotony"...not exactly a good impression, know what I mean?
Patrol Tech? I think has the best visceral impression but something is lacking...Patrol maybe being too passive?
PatTech...no. Too many old Saturday Night Live references.

So if those are the only options, I'd go with Patrol Tech (Battle Patrol? Through I think there may be IP on that).

And for a certain Quad enthusiast, I found a way to stick a Scorpion in there. Trying to take one down with commercial grade police mechs.... that's already proving interesting in megamek tests.

And on topic... I remember when Mechwarrior had more than just mechs fighting.

I remember when our mechs were loaded with multiple "iPad" display screens that contained zero useful information.

Oh, hold it.......
