I've been looking over the Civil War Mech packs and I've already picked up the Uziel. The Clan mechs don't interest me which just leaves me with the Annihilator. I'm very much on the fence about this one. Apart for some bad but lolzy builds what role will this mech have in MWO?

Don't. It's not a very good mech and PGI has enough money!

Think of it with RAC5s.

Oh hell yes.

It's a solid idea. Slow, yes, but think of it like an IS Dire Wolf with better mounts and hitboxes.

It'll have the role of wishing it could take more than a max engine of 300 and wishing its head would stop towering far above everything else, for everyone to shoot at before the low mounts are brought to bear and return fire

I'm kind of in the same boat. It does interest me a bit but that height and mount locations...
And most of the builds I was thinking of will use weapons that I don't have details on.
And buying a collector pack of it and a Clan mech won't get you any of those cbill/xp boost items. Even though it and a Mad Cat MKii would cost more than both clan packs.

It's one of the few assaults where shooting at the legs make sense! It's looking too high up to ever hit me!

Looking at the volume of the torso I question just how high that head will be. I'd like to see a side by side with an Atlas. The Annihilator may be shorter.

I feel like PGI's implementation, of the new IS ballistics, will make or break this mech.

A low heat ballistic boat is something I am interested in. I'm just unsure where a mech this slow fits into the meta.

I see Dires doing crazy ballistic builds but they aren't hampered by IS tech. In your guys opinion. If those was released today with only the tech we have now would it hold up? Assuming decent but not outstanding quirks.

Hey, you know what a mauler is, right? Those can boat a bunch of ACs, and IS ACs are superior per unit to clanner ones before quirks. I think the ANH will be fine in the guns category.

I feel that 300 max engine is going to kill this mech, despite the dakka it can bring to bear on target. once it starts to take incoming, there will be little a pilot can do minimize the damage. and with the ever increasing fire power of clan mechs this thing will melt quicker than coconut oil on a hot tanned fanny. its only saving grace will be uber quirks.

The Annihilator is the IS version of the Dire Wolf for MWO, same speed, similar loadouts. It'll be a good chassis if you can hold initiative over your opponent, many people don't seem to understand that concept and whinge about the Annihilator's neck, it won't be an issue.

I'm kinda leaning towards nabbing it. Kinda ironic considering I'm advocating speed over weight in a different forum. I've been considering several ballistic heavy builds since starting this thread and for the most part I've not heard any serious objections except for the head which, like you, doesn't overly concern me.

Racs were my initial thought as well. I did the math to see if ok could for 6 rac5's and found that you could if you made speed and armor sacrifices. I've further looked at builds considering ac/20 loadouts and maybe some sort of gauss/rac2 builds. The base package comes with laser vomit which makes me wonder about ppc boating. The 1X might be interesting from zombie perspective but I don't think a zombie that slow would be relevant.

Capping the engine at 300 leave a a lot of tonnage to fill. Just sticking with the 4 ac10's or mass lbx canons backed with strong energy loadouts might work well. The inner sphere is getting an expanded ultra loadout as well. maybe we won't need to go the rac route.
