Some points that might not have been in the summary

They rehired a guy who had left and he was and is the ELO guy
Elo will be you win you go up in elo you loose you go down

The comp roundtable was 3/4 comp 1/4 town hall

Last years MWOWC was a ton of work and a lot of matches
This year it will be opened to ranked teams

So how do you get a ranking well that's where the new in game tab comes in for competitive
Play (they are looking for a name for the new tab)

I hope I have that stuff correct

I would just like the competitive play to be closer to the actual MWO

Don't worry, it'll die on the PTS like everything else for the last 15 months. Somebody will have a tantrum and arrange a mass Twitter barrage of Russ, and a bunch of threats for refunds. Then it'll be pushed back and eventually abandoned.

Holy ****.

So I work in analytics in a big company. I just got going on a project looking at us buying a franchise in the upcoming Overwatch league.

We are bidding against Elon Musk, some huge names and some flat out *stupid* amounts of money.

Stupid amounts.

The money and caliber of people getting into esports is just silly. Flat out silly.

I can appreciate why MWO wants a piece of that. I wish they could afford to hire the resources to get this going and off the ground. They'd need a lot of recognition.

If you could stop being so butthurt by that, it'd be great

What are you going to do when the next PTS session shows up with bad feedback?

The round table and it's summary?

You said you read the summary... That was clearly stated in it - It's strictly organised teams with organised rosters/captains etc etc. There will be no solo dropping or two teams of 4 "pairing" up.

I stated that I did not read the summary due to being unable to find it and was asking for the source so that I could see it myself.

Is the 8v8 queue PUG only? i.e. no fixed premades?

8 man premade only
Like the 12 VS 12 queue...but hopefully not as bad

I admit. I'm rethinking my criticism of the concept.

In analyzing available industry data for what's involved and it's just bizarre. Last 2 years have seen it go through the roof. The advertising dollars involved... we're looking at dollar amounts that dwarf a month of TV advert for a month in major industries.

With the right tools and exposure MWO matches are entertaining a very team oriented. The potential is there but the recognition isn't. Even 1/10th of this level of investment though would be more than most AAA game titles spend on development total.

Can't the community come up with their own times they would like to see windows open and packed with people?

Sure, but that doesn't mean it will be communicated well, several people still come to Bandit on a regular basis not having heard of MRBC, and there in lies the problem, the word of these windows needs to travel if they are community defined, and the simple fact is that is harder than PGI just disallowing ranked play unless within these time frames.

View PostMischiefSC, on 11 April 2017 - 04:06 PM, said:

So a 4 hour window each for NA/Euro/PAN?

Yep, ideally you would want it setup so that at least for NA, people within each timezone get near 2 hours of play time (9est-1est = 6pst-10pst for example).

Seeing how many in queue doesn't work as well because most will see it empty and ignore it. You need a way to see who WANTS to be in it.

If they WANT to be in it, then they SHOULD BE IN IT. End of story.

View PostMischiefSC, on 11 April 2017 - 04:06 PM, said:

The problem with comparing it to Overwatch is the team vs solo in a team dynamic. Dropping in an 8man vs dropping with 7 pugs - even if it's a ranked queue.

Which is why some were worried about the no PUG attitude Paul and Russ had about this.

8 v 8 is the right amount for comp but I hope that they limit the game modes for some maps. Reason why is HPG camping in the bottom is and was an issue in early comp days.

The mode is always conquest.

If 8-mans are only allowed in that new queue, it's gonna have sporadic usage (aka we know this as FP/CW).

I will admit; I'm waiting on new technology and the new 8v8 Competitive.

I'm getting to that point in MWO where I lose interest, even more so when I'm playing another game where I'm actually gaining currency within steam's market/wallet from it.

Shame MWO can't be the same way....

We just got access to industry data on franchise deals and the advert dollars involved. Most of the values picked up a "zero" on the end from last year to this one. The meetings where team franchises get bought and sold are 7-9 digit conversations now and it's full of names you'd recognize, most buying in personally. Some of the deals around adverts and placement deals coming out this year in esports are comparable to the same sort of deals inn major sports in soccer, football and March Madness.

It's flat out ******* insane. Look, I work projects all the time involving advertising and marketing budgets for all manner of media in industries that spend a lot in that area. We're looking at buy in for esports and it's like positioning a spot during the Super Bowl. It's a serious investment.

I can appreciate PGIs interest. I don't think they have anything like the resources they would need to make MWO a thing in esports unless the tools for broadcasting and promoting the matches gets a lot of help.

At the very least they need to go to the comp players and give them whatever they want to get a comp environment going and growing.

Would be neat to be able to make money from MWO. Just throw in a community market feature where you can sell off owned mechs for prices on steam or trade them around.

People could trade gold mechs for very high prices due to rarity as they do knives in CSGO, and people could grind playing with some premium time and hero mechs to go and buy popular mechs for cbills then sell them on the market for some funds. It would be awesome, though it might cut into PGI's profits if they aren't taking a cut themselves, but the level of player activity created by it would likely make up for the cut.

That would be awesome. Though that would never happen as much as I like to think it could ;w;

Gross. Nevermind then. My schedule does not permit group shenanigans these days.

I'd like a 8v8 PUG queue without all the clowns. That would be ideal. Something I could join whenever I want for a few minutes at a time, because lately that is all I have.

I hope some unknown group of puggies get together and manage to make it to the finals. That would be one hell of a story.

I don't think MWO has anything like the population depth at a competitive level needed to hit an esports level. It's not just about "do you have 8 players who will show up". You want someone to but a franchise and spend money attracting sponsors and selling advertising and ad revenue slots you need to be 100% sure you'll have people to show up to compete.

Also needs enough teams to fill a competitive environment.

Not sure MWO has the potential for that.

So more team dependent Elo? Sorry, that Elo isn't complex enough. It needs to be individual participation weighted, too. And further judged against their peers on a curve. This way the slackers can't have false stats.

You gave us everything exept the thing that you based your conclusion on. What evidence do you have to support that it doesn't have the potential.

Because, if I talked to Bandit, he would probably have a different idea.
