Domination has been in circulation for quite a while now and while I remember a few frustrating games when it was first introduced, things settled down into an acceptable routine not long after that. But for some reason, that seems to have changed and I'm seeing a disturbing increase in players having a hard time coming to grips with the mechanics of what I thought was an extremely simple gametype. So lets go over the basics.
DO: Keep pressure on the reds while holding the circle.
DON'T: Sit outside the circle poking / sniping / LRMing while a single light mech holds the circle alone.
DO: Identify and hold advantageous positions whilst focusing targets of opportunity.
DON'T: Abandon the circle to chase a wounded squirrel halfway across the map.
DO: Pay close attention to the timer when considering a push or change in tactics.
DON'T: Assume that someone else on your team will hold the circle while you go cross country to find your favourite poking / sniping / LRMing spot.
Domination, Really Simple Stuff (but apparently not for some).

Worst I have seen in Domination not counting the maps with bad circle placement is Grim Plexus. Seems the side that gets the F7 / G7 just usually wants to camp that high ground and the other team pushes into them or the circle usually winning.

Yeah that hidding around f7 on grim is annoying... if they took the high ground then they would at least have firing lines, camped on th e slopes - not cool. I pull back now from either; being in the circle or from an over watch postion. When the rest of the team has no direct lines if sight (and aren't moving anywhere). So not okay in being left high and dry by team that won't suppport...
Edit: The worst/most ironically amusing one. We lost when out team still had 10 mechs (possibly 11). A light went forward and held the circle. (Repeatly asking for help and providing intel). I was in a quad Uac2 huntsmen/or hbk iic, moved forward to where I could see/engage. Warned the light that they were about to be over run (they stayed 3 or 4 enemy converged on them)- I would have been next, and our team steadfastily hid and remained silent... so I moved back to join them... timer ran down... gg close

Do pick another mode on Grim Plexus if Domination comes out. Even Escort is better, on Plexus.

Grim Plexus is limited in the places you'd want to hide in AND try to get support from the team. I don't think this is as egregious as Bog with one side having no access to the secondary plateau or Alpine (which is only getting the fix in the next patch) or even Crimson Strait (which the recent change is no better than the original placement).
You can't be passive and you can't strictly just camp to win. It doesn't work.

Grim Plexus is definitely the worst offender. But what I find most bewildering is I'm seeing more and more games won / lost just by having one team abandon the circle for no apparent reason. Relatively early in the match too. The timer starts counting down and no one seems to notice or care.
Another thing that happens with Domination is people seem to forget that it is actually a different gamemode to Skirmish. I know the difference is small and that 99.9% of the time it really doesn't matter...but on the weekend I had a good one.
Crimson Straight and the enemy has 5 mechs camping on the island from the start. Actually 5 mechs, not an exaggeration. I know because I thought I had an easy target in the form of an LRM Catapult only to be met with a rude shock when I found he had a Night Gyr, Kodiak and a pair of Mad-IIC for company. The rest of my team cleaned up most of the Reds until it was 10-7 in our favour. The 5 on the island and a Cicada and Mist Lynx holding the circle. A sensible approach would be to track down those in the circle (how hard can it be to kill a CDA and MLX, really?), but instead, they decided to try and poke with the island campers or even to run across the river to try and brawl with them. That resulted in a swift death via PPC, Gauss and LRMs.
When you think you've seen it all....there's always something new!
