Don't know if anyone mentioned this before, but didn't battletech cannon have proprietary armor to equip for special missions/objectives?

I clearly remember 'Reflective' armor to offer higher protection from energy weapons, but was more susceptible to impact damage from ballistic weapons.
You could think of this as being 'hard and shiny' and would disperse a small percentage of energy that struck it away, but was fragile to impact damage at a higher rate than standard armor

And 'Reactive' armor which absorbed more damage from ballistic weapons but was susceptible to greater damage from energy weapons.
This type would be made of a softer material that would 'give' and reduce a small percentage of the impact damage, but would fail more quickly from the heat generated by energy attacks than std. armor.

This would allow some interesting customization options in the mech bay.

adding equipment that counters specific weapons is a dangerous path to go down

look what magic jesus box has done to lrms.

Well, Jesus Box Abd Radar Derp had done nothing to LRMs.
The only thing that they did was to screw teamplay beyond repair.

To have the option to use specific counter armor would have killed many metas in their beginning.
Laser vomit would have a joke with reflec armor.
Blue shield and reactive ppfld who?
OK Gauss need to be countered by reactive (duno exact rules)

Reactive Armor defends against mortars, missiles and other explosive weaponry, as well as the armor piercing effect of tandem-charged missiles and armor piercing autocannon ammunition.
"A lucky hit can cause the armor to explode."

3063.

There's also Hardened Armor.

In the source material it'd give you the same numbers and weigh twice as much, but it would take 2 damage to destroy 1 armor. Here we'd just double the armor number. It comes at stiffer reaction times. It would reduce speed and flexibility however, meaning less ability to climb hills, stiffer controls. The real merit which is meaningless in MWO however is that it would stop armor piercing altogether, even from special munitions.

These armors are just more effective against certain weapon types. Mainly they reduce the incoming damage from said types. It does nothing to nullify them completely.

except all that does is create a ballistic meta

since there is no armor type that reduces ballistic damage. only energy and missile damage.

Create "Ballistic Armor" or somethig that is specifically counter-ballistic and call it a day?

really?
This is your argument?
Of course we can go the full Dark Age - for armor variants - or simple make:
Reduced Energy Damage
Reduced Ammunition Damage

One of the things MW4 did right, btw... canon i love canon but the rules and stats of the TT are not canon
