250 Per Round Damage Threshold... Or Back To The Academy...

So, just a thought...

This post is not for the guys saying "I could have but.. (the light mechs, the lack of targeting by teammates, poor calling...), but really it is...

For people looking to improve their game and how your actions benefit your team...

A "low damage" threshold is around 250, especially if you are taking up 80 tons+

If you find you are often finding yourself with less that 250damage in a round, please take a moment and STOP TRYING TO JAM THE SQUARE PEG IN A ROUND HOLE.

You should be able to be counted on for a MINIMUM performance of 250 without regard to your chassis weight (even a light, think about it), especially if you are in Charlie lance.

If you find you are usually below a 250, quit hurting your PUG team with your experimentation and go to the testing grounds or the academy.

General rule of thumb, you should be able to contribute to the team with a solid 100pts damage per weight class. (That's right you fat butt asssalt mechs, we SHOULD be able to count on you for a whopping 400point damage round)

I don't care what your excuse is... if you do less, you should SHUT UP, stay in the round and wait until the battle ends and LEARN the game.

Just because you THINK you can drive a mech and feel the need to waste the team allocation of tonnage does not mean you can actually use it well...


Please allow the minimum benchmark of 250 help you find your weight class you should be running.

Problem is, nearly half the playerbase is averages below 250 damage per battle.

The 250 and 400 numbers seem about right to me.

The difference in damage output for weight classes isn't nearly that great; lights should most definitely not be doing just 1/4th of the damage of an assault.


See the QP leaderboard stats for Season 4 here.

Damage is roughly 1.5 times match score, so for each weight class, the average damage is:
Lights = 249
Mediums = 300
Heavies = 316
Assaults = 343

So about 250/300/325/350 is what should be expected for 'average' performance in each weight class.

My point still stands..

Please review your end of round stats and think...

Am I a benefit in this build for my team?... or am I a zipper sucking wannabe troll in training that should learn to shoot?

I mean... mistakes happen, but if this is your average, please consider you are lacking in the skills needed to adequately function for the benefit of your team in your desired weight class and some refinement is needed so you will not be considered a "vent riding, air sucking ***** non-qual, variable ballast lump of coal" (bubbleheads will understand that part).

I know it sounds like I am bashing some players...

It's nice that the forums allow you to have your little elitist rant even though other people would think maybe that's kind of a douchey thing to do.

Oh hey, just like the game allows people to enter a match and do whatever damage their level of skill and the chaos of battle works out to.

So sad that nobody enforces standards anymore...

250 can easily be 2 KMD's.

I know i've had matches that i only did 150-225, and ended up with 3 kills.

Some of the worst rolls i have ever seen are when the top person on the team barely has over 400 and everyone else is in the 200-300 range with lots of assists.


Damage does not tell the whole story.. It's a part, just like KMMD, KDR, W/L, assists ect..

Then play with a Unit.. It's pretty simple. You know if you play QP, you can be on teams with new players. Either deal with that, or play group, the choice is yours

Lots of players will say you are someone they need to carry if they want to win.

Maybe just stop this stupid "I am the bad crusader!" clowning, forget the statistics and just have fun?
If not, dont talk about "Statistical Analysis" if you cant even read the leaderboard.

not everyone always plays to be competitive though. sometimes people just play for fun and fun mechs tend to get crappy KDRs. For example, my KDR is crap this season because I spent a lot of time playing locusts and kitfoxes.

if youre actually trying your best to be competitive though, I think 250 damage and 1 kill is a good minimum baseline to aim for. No ones gonna say you didnt pull your weight if you do 250 damage and 1 kill.

I consider anything less than 500 average PUG queue solo damage playing badly.

I play only for fun, no competive, no meta, iam too old for that.
If someone has fun and trys his best, its ok for me, i dont do more and dont claim more.

But our bad crusader is not fullfilling what he claims from others,
thats why he got a little slap and a smile.

I get where the OP is coming from,I really do (especially the "then shut up" part), but how does it benefit me to go back to the academy when I get blanked (and hardly even getting to move) after having dropped on the far left, south DZ on Tourmaline in a meta XL running Grasshopper only to get taken out by PPFLD firing Hunchback IICs from across the map by the four membrs of a seven man of SA or SJR, EMP, etc.?

I mean everybody has bad days...or even bad streaks, yet they know damn well how to play the game just as well as you or anyone else for that matter. Also, how is the Academy going to help someone like me running l low tier IS mech? Maybe add a PGI endorsed warning sign that states that some mechs are so bad that they should not be allowed in play?

I mean come'on man.

Well, around 50% of light players, 25% of heavy/medium and 10% of assault players are averaging 250 damage or less.

And that is a LOT of players.

Yeah those players are terrible (hell, I think at least 75% of the playerbase could be considered 'bad'), but sadly the majority of those players are never going to improve.

Seems to me if you are finding yourself on the losing team frequently and feel the need lecture others you should first look at yourself since the common denominator in all those games is you.

It is upsetting when half the PUGgles will fail to deal 200 damage
Maybe 5/12 average, on good days



On the plus side, that means more damage for you!
