The thing that jumped out at me was that he said you'd drop off both hostile, AND friendly indicators.

So you can dump an alpha into that 'stealthed' 'mech you spotted, but you might zog a friendly if you do.

The other thing with stealth armor active is you can't capture or interact with things in general. So, you need to cross through a capture zone undetected? Turn on the stealth armor, can't cap with it on. So that is an interesting mechanic. Seismic should still pick you up, as it isn't dampening your footfalls and what not. But, it is essentially passive radar mode.

Stealth armor is not useless, I can seamlessly integrate it into my existing NARC Raven with zero problems. In tabletop the system could be toggled off to avoid heat buildup. If this is also the case in MWO it will be a very useful but niche item.

They said the stealth armor would also make you invisible to thermal imaging. Not sure if that applies to night vision.

For as much as that will matter since people vote for the same easy visibility shet maps. Seriously I'm so sick and tired of everyone whining about visibility.

Last night I played a game in the swamp and it was dark and foggy. There was a Commando with ECM that I could easily spot with heat vision and I tagged him a number of times without getting any return fire (I had ECM too). If he'd had stealth armour I never would have seen him in the first place, or probably at all.

Under the right conditions stealth armour will be seriously useful

I'd imagine it would also be useful on some assaults for exactly the same reason - to reduce damage taken - Atlas DC with stealth armour anyone?

I had the same idea.
With the old predator view no thermal signature would have been great.
So to be effective we need flir (why not combine it with zoom)
Either flir and zoom or normal view without zoom

Flir could also become a top tier for skill tree

Rockets sound a little useless I will admit - or perhaps useful only as a last ditch attempt weapon for mechs with a spare missile hardpoint. Right now we know they will be light but were not sure on the damage.

As for Stealth armour that is going to be nice!

Stealth armour will defeat - UAV`s, Scans (in things like incursion), it will blend the mech in to the background heat levels so that heat vision will not pick it up too easily as well. I quite like the sound of Stealth armour. But they said it will only be useful for ECM mechs.

yeah except they really need to get rid of ecm giving stealth. its simply not a balanced ability for a 1.5 ton piece of equipment. its never been balanced.

stealth armor should only be equippable by mechs with an ecm slot since stealth armor comes with integrated ecm.

here is what ecm should do:
  • disrupt electronics like artemis/narc/bap, etc...
  • double enemy missile lockon time for user and nearby friendly mechs, like it currently does
  • should cut off players from sharing sensor data with their teammates like it used
  • should have a new ghost mode (unlockable from the skill tree) that creates fake radar signatures
  • should NOT grant stealth, have a stealth bubble, or prevent missiles from locking on.

only stealth armor should grant stealth and only to the mech using the stealth armor. stealth armor should also make you invisible to heat vision. And most of the things that counter ECM stealth currently should counter stealth armor instead.

we should also get two new consumables. one would be a seismic sensor probe you can stick in the ground and it would detect seismic signatures in a radius around it. the other would be a fake signature probe you could stick in the ground to create fake radar signatures.

What they really need to do is balance the ECM availability across IS and clan because it feels like every other clan mech has it.

if ECM was better balanced, its availability wouldnt matter as much

although as of right now many more IS mechs have ecm than clan mechs.

IS gets 4 lights, 4 mediums, 2 heavies, and 3 assaults with ECM

Clans only get 3 lights, 1 medium, 1 heavy, and 1 assault with ECM

You just see the ECM clan mechs more often because omnipods

Stealth armor would be usefull if MWO would finaly get a modifier to targeting depending on range.
Many games have this when you move around your aim get less accurate or when you fire a lot. I think this mechanic is even in Cryengine.

This simple mechanic would help TTK so much and give stealtharmor so much more use.
You could also add a mechanic into the skilltree that you pilot becomes a "weapon specialist" with a certain type of weapon so his aim would be better with it.
I still don't quite get why its not part of the game.

As for the current idea for stealtharmor...its semi effective. I could imagne it for one of my mechs that I use as a sniper and that is relativly fast. Activate stealth, move in position, give of a shot or two, stealth and run.

If the stealth armour heat vision ignore works on hot maps at range (i.e. not being a black blob in a white sea) then it will definitely have a niche use for hot map snipers, since hot map sniper vision is extremely powerful.

I think that the likelihood is that it wont though, since im pretty sure thats a fault in the implementation of heat vision where the mech display shade is independent of the map - i.e. on cold/normal maps the background is black and on hot its light grey/white, and the mechs are set to show as black when out of heat vision range in order not to be seen on cold/normal maps - which means on hot maps the mechs stick out as black blobs when out of thermal range. I doubt that stealth armour will resolve that, since im sure if they could resolve it they already would have. I doubt its intended to be hot map sniper vision.

Given that, and the fact that they said it will make YOUR sensors not work when its on... i dont see it being useful. Its like you switch it on and it makes a level playing field as far as target spotting is concerned, where with just ECM you have the advantage most of the time since your sensors still work.

What that actually says more than anything else is how grossly OP both ECM and radar deprivation are.

Mostly radar dep as a module, as ECM is mech specific and takes up space and weight in a mech, granted it is not much but still, radar dep is in a league of its own in the module system, and seismic isn't far behind.

sounds op the way i heard it. though its probibly going to give you a case of tissue paper armor. on some small light mechs its going to be so much easier to go on backstabbing runs. but if they detect you with their mk1 eyeball, you are toast.

I for one look forward to trying out that stealth coating on my Pirates Bane. It sounds like it was made for that little mech! <3 but then I appear to be an odd ball in this here bunch of mech pilots.

The one thing that really stood out to me - dodges UAV`s! That my friends is a lights wet dream in QP. However thinking about it more we will have to wait and see how it actually functions and the mechanics of it.

So you can multiply the number of Clan mechs with ECM by about 5 due to omnipod swapping.

Um... if anything, Stealth Armor would be OP.

You are talking about a defensive system that completely nullifies 2 major weapon system. One of them is what most people heavily rely on to kill light mechs.

Honestly, if anything, PGI need to balance Stealth armor to allow streak to still target somehow. It's one thing to be ineffective. It's quite another to be IMMUNE. Which honestly IMO, horrible game design.

All of you are thinking like "oh no, lights, I'll just shoot him through visual ques. The problem of why ECM is a god armor is that most people don't rely on pure visual ques to kill. They need targeting. they need streak, they need LRMS. Stealth armor is like a Super ECM. OP? Hell yea.

Realistically, how many players outside of the S-SRM/LRM boaters, actually use the HUD to lockon and target other mechs?

i do all the time to find out where their armor is weakness or what weapons they are carrying/destroyed. You don't?

Dito, also use target locks allways to find the sweet spot my shots have the most effect. Thats also why I can't understand that
A] people don't lock their targets to find the weak spot
B] it is a problem for LRM boats to find a target
C] people just don't lock targets because some LRM mech could use their lock to target that mech. Its free firepower. Maybe not the most effective one but hey its for free ^_°
