I assume you are not using Nvidia? Cause if you do, I recommend Shadowplay. When I had AMD Radeon, I recorded using Bandicam. It did the job. Fraps was fine as well, but you already said that it reduces your FPS.

I been using fraps because the other I have tried gave me files my video editing software didn't work with. So if you're doing something important like a comp match make sure to test it.

OBS Studio for Streaming or Lossy.

Dxtory for Lossless, better than Fraps.

Shadowplay's pretty good, but you get stuck with NVidia bloatware on your system to have it.

I use OBS. Not the best in the world, but free and easy to use.

if you are using windows 10 there will be an update, not sure when that has 'game mode' that you can record with.it is released already in the optional creators update for win10 which just came out 4/11.

It works okay, but not the best. It will sometimes corrupt recordings you have. Only works best. Instant Replay sucks, you have to manually turn it on, and sometimes even then, it won't turn on.

Try OBS, it's not the easiest one to set up but I guarantee you that it has settings available to let you record smoothly. It's also completely free. Keep in mind that if you can't run fraps you're probably going to have to settle for low quality recordings or low quality graphics no matter which program you use.

I had a corrupted video once, but I was able to salvage it by just repackaging it into another container.
So, so far, no losses.

I also recommend xsplit while expensive it works and works well. cannot say how well it works on amd systems.

(I re-read the op) .. if you can not use the amd relive capture software then there maybe no help as that should be the lightest weight recording software you have available to you.

try obs, dxstory and if not then try xsplit.

and then there is http://loilo.tv/us/product/game_recorder

kinda out of left field but they make presentation capture software but seem to be
getting into live streaming also . maybe a alternative if the others are to hard on your machine.
