It's become all too common for players of both Clan and IS to berate another player for what they consider to be poor performance, I have seen and experienced it myself more often in the last month than I have ever seen/noticed. When I first started playing a year ago, I though oh wow, a game that I can play where people aren't @rseholes to each other! How it has changed since then... At first I thought that it was just in FW, unfortunately I see it now in QP (more so in team matches than solo drops) more and more often... When did our community become toxic?

Do people realize that you aren't on your A-Game all the time, sometimes it might be a bad direction call, or your mech is slower than the rest, no need to try and degrade a player just for that... I know there is a mute button, but not having to use it nearly every match would be nice.

The community isn't that bad overall. Sure we all have bad matches and get vocal, myself included. However, you have to admit that most of the time the coms are on the positive side.

Part of the problem is PGI forces lower skill players to fight with higher skill. It's also far too easy to move up in rank. They really need to have a better way of keeping the newer people, or people with less skill fighting similar players so those who are more competitive can have more competitive fights. This would help grow the population by keeping newer people playing longer and make the game more fun as you get better.

Every online competitive game has those people. This isn't something unique to MWO. It's the nature of the internet.

I just mute, ignore, and move on with my life.

If atmosphere is toxic, open window and let in a fresh breeze .

P.s.: You should´ve seen the saltlevels of : 3PV, HSR, GH, GH2, LRM-ageddon 1&2, deployment of Clans, Quirkenings ... basically each change that was made to this game (some deservedly, some not) .
Right now ... just average saltiness, with some crocodile tears and freshly squeezed EZ-Mode-denial lemonjuice in between .

Enjoy !

Perhaps you are playing with a toxic crowd? I don't play all that many matches, and what I do is 90% solo QP (the rest would be solo FP when some event is on). I rarely see people being abusive, other than every couple matches someone will die fast and then say "Wow this team sucks!" either in text or voice. I pay those people just about as much attention as I do the people who bring up politics in a game...

Thinking back to a week ago. I watched a female streamer play MWO. When she spoke in the game the idiotic "you're a girl!?" and in the loudest obnoxious voice they could muster. A little disappointed because the guy didn't sound like a kid. But decided to act like one and started being loud for the sake of being loud. She had to mute him and three others. Seriously people grow up.

I only play solo qp, so if I come across one or more a55h0le5 it's only for a match, then we part ways. Even better, on a good night I come across them again later on the red team. I don't call them out or talk junk. I quietly, politely go about trying to pull their wings off before I stove in their CT. I imagine them melting down over voip the way they did when we were teammates, blaming everyone but themselves, of course.

Feels. So. Good.

People get so frustrated because more of us don't play group or FP. They imagine solo qp to be some peripheral consideration, instead of the game's main draw (which it is). There are probably almost as many reasons for this as their are players (I myself hate the idea of drop decks). But I think a big part of why more of us don't want to engage with the group/FP hassle is all the negative sh1t (beyond the standard-issue getting whupped on over and over again) that new players trying to figure this game out have to wade through, doled out by established players who revel in their superiority at the expense of the NPE.

As for toxicity on the forums, It may not be apparent to those in the bubble, but this forum is looking more and more like the hospice-status Hawken forums. It's the same few people posting, responding to each other, and often bludgeoning anyone who disagrees with their echo-box. Here at MW:O, PGI has merrily handed these people a cudgel: leaderboard stats with which to hit new players over the head.

It probably feels fine if you're "in." But just as the majority of players don't want to deal with the sh*t-talk hassle of FP/Group, many don't want to deal with the ad hominem hassle of expressing unpopular opinions here on the forums, either.

PGI has a lot to answer for in regard to the monkey-strung state of their game, no doubt. Any community, however, is chiefly as healthy or unhealthy as its individual members make it.

I admit, sometimes i feel frustrated. Sometimes I die first, sometimes I complain. But honestly, just ignore those unless they have some constructive criticism or suggestion to say.

They're pathetic if they have to berate "lesser" people just to feel big.

This community's toxicity in game is absolutely nothing compared to hardcore multiplayer games. Now, the forums are often a cesspool of staggeringly irrational thought, but the game itself? Not really.

Compare MWO, where you may get some snarky comments on a terrible match to the festering pit of horrible behavior that fills games like DOTA 2.

I played one game of DOTA 2, and it was one too many.

It was a year or so ago, and my brother in law was into the game at the time. He thought I might be interested when I was visiting to give the game a try. So, he lets me play a game on his account. Trying to be honest to the team of PUG's he's with, he mentions that I was new - big mistake.

VOIP instantly fills up with profanity and death threats... because threatening to kill somebody for being new at a video game is a perfectly logical human response. Posted Image So, we turn VOIP off.. the text chat fills up with wonderful stuff like endless use of the F-word, things like "I hope somebody kills you," and so on.

I play the one game, actually score better than some of the raving madmen on my team, won, and will never, ever interact with that horrible, pile of crap community again. With attitudes like that, they clearly aren't even mature enough to BE on the internet, much less interacting with other human beings.

So, yeah... MWO has nothing on games like that for horrible communities.

Nah the community is fine. 70% of the time you see toxicity on the forums its in response to something PGI did. The other 30% is just the unavoidable toxicity all games have.

Made a comment on how I should uncheck the EU server from matchmaking as I've only got teams who sit as far from the fight as possible, leading me to die early doing sweet f a. Several of my teammates directly after the match (I bother to stay to the end even in those games) started calling me noob, bad, uninstall the game, kys, etc as I only did 93 damage that match while holding off 5 mechs at the same time all by myself while the ERLL + LRM assaults had turned their backs from the enemy to run away. All of this, directly after I pulled a 950 damage game on the NA server just before. All the toxicity that I've seen in this game so far is when I'm on the EU server.

Would be nice if you could prevent yourself from ever being matched on the same team with someone on your ignore list.

the peeps that play this game is a pretty cool bunch even when we get hot headed during the match we are still resonable and pretty kosher.

if you think otherwise you need a bit more gaming experince under your belt.

but if things are too "Toxic" just turn the sound off and ignore chat. works wonders, and if you want to further improve the play experience. exit the match as soon as your killed and join another match. you can have a non toxic and productive play session doing that. albeit pretty generic and lacking in flavor.
