heyo friends, i'm what you would call a newbie (i started playing Mech Assault 2) then i got into MW4, so i dont know the history or the story too well, but im a good pilot (so i think) and I know this much, i DIG House Kurita...so please, anyone wanna help a new guy out?

(To Alkero) Such an open ended question, and I'm sure will lead some of the posters here spending pages on HK (House Kurita) history.

The Inner Sphere (IS) consisted all the systems that were known/populated centered around Old Terra. The IS was roughly divided between 5 great houses, House Kurita and everyone else (House Davion, House Steiner, House Liao, House Marik). Until the invasion of the Clans from the periphery in mid-3050, the IS was all there was as far as history was concerned.

House Kurita, or Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery (DCMS was the fighting force of HK) was based on the code of Bushido, the way of the sword from historical Japan.

The great houses are really player communities withing the overall Battletech community. Each house will have it's own units and chain of command.

You can join any house, each with it's own history and customs, merely by asking. Each great house might have it's own initiation or trial to join, but for the most part all are open and welcoming of new players.

And as far as I know, the game will be released sometime around summer 2012, our time.

The innersphere where we all conduct our combat operations consists of roughly 4-7000 planets where at one time each of the 5 houses who expanded into the stars from planet terra, owed thier alleigence to a single House Lord called Cameron who was known as the first lord of what was known as the Star Leauge. The army that kept the peace amongst the star league was known as the Star League Defense Force led by the head of the military Kerensky. The leader of House Cameron if I remember died without an hier creating a power vaccum where each of the other house lords wanted to claim the First Lord status and refound the Star League under thier respective banner. When the fall of House Cameron occured, Kerensky assembled all of the defense force and explained to them that in order to avoid years of war, they should leave known space with as much of the weapons of war as they could possibly amass to keep the house lords from using thier destructive power against each other to gain an advantage, with the promise that they would return one day to reclaim and reconstitute the Star League.

That being said Kerensky took the Star Leauge Defense Force and left to what they called the pentagon Worlds, which was 5 Planetary systems that formed a pentagon in space outside of the innersphere. Over the years the SLDF created a caste system where the elites of thier respective fields would donate thier genetic material to a genetic cloning system to create the best Mechwarrior, or the best scientist, or the best engineer, each with thier own training programs known as sibko's. Any genetic warriors wanting to take on the surnames of thier forefathers had to prove themselves through trials, those known as Kerensky being the best of the best. Eventually the genetic warriors corrupted Kerenskys vision of a return to the innersphere, so he attempted to adjust for this by making the various clans leave the Pentagon worlds and refound themselves in new systems away from thier claimed homeworlds. each of the respective clans expanded further and further away from the Pentagon worlds leaving the history of and lessons of the infighting that occured there behind. several centurys later you have what is now known as the Clans instead of the original SLDF invading the innersphere in order to retake the"Jewel of the universe" Terra which they look at as thier birth right to control as it was thier ancestrial homeworld.

Battletech/Mechwarrior is the game that coined the term Clan in the online gaming community beginning in the early 1990's. As Gryphon explained in battletech you have House units and then you have the Clans. The Draconis Combine is based on the Japanese Samurai discipline "Bushido" which translated means "Way of the Warrior" sorry Gryphon but your translation is slightly off. Prior to Mechwarrior, the term Clan was never used, because no one but our community knew what they were. House Kurita is one of the Great Houses, we are not a Clan to call us one is an insult to all of us who fought the clans over the last decade. We take pride in defeating using inferior technology those who claim to be our betters through intelligence, planning, and superior tactics.

As members of House Kurita, we follow our leaders as samurai would thier respective Generals all owing our loyalty to the Gunji-No-Kanrei, esentially the shogun or "First Warlord" if you will who has under him Tai-Shu "War lords" of thier respective districts each having Tai-sho "Generals" in thier prefectures with multiple regiments at thier command. The political head of House Kurita is known as the "Coordinator" or Emperor in the style of the Japanese monarchy some would say was the puppet of the Gunji-no-Kanrei but to whom ultimate respect is due from all citizens.

(To Hawkcrest) Thanks for the info! It helped a bunch to now exactly what the difference was between clans and IS..so when actually playing MWO (when it comes out) like, what are "groups of people who play together" (known in other games to be called "clans")..what are they called here? because here the term "clan" has been taken by, well, the Clans..and then how would I find myself a part of said "group of people" ;D

Speaking from previous experience through ISW, usually you talk to other people and make yourself known in your house/faction. Everybody here wants a piece of the action and for others to join in too. Don't be afraid to jump right in the mix, it's all part of the experience.

Regardless of what the FAQ section says, people will levitate toward House factions...as your signature shows In MPBT: Solaris, the game was designed to be about, well, Solaris obviously, so there was only supposed to be Stables and dueling. But the community made it something better, formed the houses and structures and had our own wars, all on Solaris. And the developers ended up supporting us. Communities will decide, not a FAQ.

With that said Alkero, as said already people will probably levitate towards Houses, IE House Kurita, aka the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery (the name of the actual military). Though even within a house, people have their own regiments/units, IE 9th Sword of the Dragon in my case.

So basically start out as a lone wolf and get good, then be noticed? once noticed to hopefully get an invite from some Merc Corp?

you say, "as your signature shows"....what exactly do you mean? I just listed one of, if not, my favorite mech compositions, is this mech from a certain House? is that what you mean?
