When someone only brings LBX and MLs a CERML that can kill them at 450m seems OP. When someone just stands stock still in the open and shoots their LPLs vs CLPLs at 600m without twisting, CLPLs must seem terribly OP.

The moment someone learns the torso moves independently from the legs when they're not using a joystick suddenly those don't seem quite so uneven.

So, I keep seeing folks mention that the IS is supposed to have the advantage in brawls. I am not stating that I agree or disagree, but I'd sure like to see the supporting arguments for that.

In any case, lets suppose it is true.

Siege mode is purgatory for any shorter range mechs (i.e. brawlers). Just about every siege map has lanes of fire that a longer range mech can take serious advantage of. Firing lines can be downright deadly.
Yes, there are also choke points on each map, which favor short range, but especially when attacking, you can't choose to fight at those spots. On defense, you may be able to choose your ambush location, but if the defenders are quick (clan mechs are often faster, esp. in heavier weights) and coordinated, they can alter their attack (choice of gate, and direction thrust once inside) to at least partly nullify that supposed brawling advantage.

Which is why scout results matter a bunch if you are IS. Having better battlefield information, and possibly more importantly denying the same to the enemy can be the margin of victory for even a mildly coordinated IS team.

And as for the choke points, another area where clan mechs are acknowledged to be superior is in high alphas. So, even a brief exposure allows clans, in general (there are exceptions) to deliver better damage. A few of those and....

Btw, as others have mentioned, just because the bar is all the way to one side or the other does not mean that one side will be defending all the time, the other attacking. I believe it is fairly random (it might be weighted in one direction, but I've no information on that).

You mean the advantage of having heavier brawling weapons, less firepower and durability across the line? Look at how scouting matches are going and you have your answer. It's almost as ******** as the argument that balance is fine because the most stupidly overquirked (or maybe the rest are just underquirked) IS 85 ton assault can almost fight clan heavies at a parity.

Less durability? Are you even remotely serious? You simply cannot be...

Get in a BLR-2C with 5 LPLs and then get in a laser vomit MAD-IIC and tell me which mech is squishier. No...really...or how about go drive an Atlas, then a KDK. Better yet...go drive a HBK-4SP and then talk to me after you ran around in a huntsman. You could even drive a Whammy and then drive a HBR and tell me which mech is tankier.

I mean...you can say a lot of things about IS mechs, but them not being much more durable...is certainly not one of those things.
