I hope we'll see less salt and vinegar on this board once the bittervets and naysayers are on another game, but I think that's a dream.

Turn based top down strategy vs first person vehicle shooter. Why do people think they compete?
edit: And if you're going to quote Douglas Adams, get it right

No more betas.
On a side note, if skill tree comes out on tuesday then I'm done with this beta as well.

To be honest I am unimpressed with HBS's work on the Shadowrun games. While they aren't really that bad they are no where near to some of the other recent party based single player RPG games that have came out in the same time frame like Path of Eternity. Aside, of course, from being set in the Shadowrun world.
I'm hoping the new Battletech will be awesome but I'm not expecting more than an enjoyable week or two out of it.

Im just far more impressed by HBS PR and commitment to particular universe, i also much
more prefer Mechcommander over Mechwarrior...so my leisure hours will be split accordingly.
With long Tukayyad burn its time to take a bit of rest.

I am certainly going to try it out, but that doesn't mean I'll leave this game, or any other, for good.
Unless it's truly amazing...

Again and again, they are two different games.
One is a FPS with focus on action and the other is a turn based game focus on strategy and squad management / campaign.
Mechwarrior is a series of FPS games based on Battletech;
Battletech is a turn based game taken from the TT rules.
Different gameplay, different public. Of course I will buy BT when it comes out but I do not expect to play with it more than a couple of weeks or months if it is really good.

Heh, if you really want to nitpick, Douglas Adams wrote that "thanks for all the fish" in french in the English text, like this : "Salut, et encore merci pour le poisson." ... and that's an intentional typo and double-entendre, since "poisson" means fish, but "poison" is the same meaning in French and English ...
So the Dolphins thanked humanity for all the poisoned fish in the ocean, and did a play on words ...
/hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy fanboy mode off
And remember ... don't panic

If there are people here who don't actually like playing arena shooters they probably shouldn't wait for HBS to leave.

I dont have a raging hard on for battletech like many of you do so no I wont be going to some terrible turn based game that looks like it was made about 10 years ago.
Oh and I am a big fan of strategy games but real time, not turn based. Ive never enjoyed turn based games much except very few exceptions.

On second thought, no thanks.
On the plus side, now there will be two mech games for people to complain about. I played HBS's shadow run, Its a pretty decent game, and i can see how they could make a nice turnbased mech game. But i'm certainly not going to hold my breath thinking its the second coming. Maybe it will be on sale black Friday. Perhaps i'll be tempted to grab it then. Shadow run was a perfect game for 2.50

That said, there isn't much calling to me in a turn-based strategy/squad digital version. Did that already, we called it 'BattleTech the Boxed Set'.
My experience with previous BT titles, then comparing to MWO and even my TT days, has shown me that what I really enjoyed the most was mission play: trying to accomplish storyline-based objectives using available/achievable resources, all leading up to a (hopefully) glorious end goal. That feeling of working through the story/lore background of the BT universe was what I enjoyed most.
I'll definitely keep an eye on news and reviews about HBS' game but no plans to play it as yet.
