So there are many complaints surrounding what will be an abundance of XP, varying from person to person and playtimes etc.

What I wanted to point out is that we already have this. Once we pass a threshold of GXP and purchase a number of basic modules, there is no need to spend it further, and when it comes to individual mechs, I know I in particular have a number of variants with a million or more mech specific XP that will NEVER be spent in the current system (live server, pre skill tree).

These pools of "unspendable" (or near enough, never/too many to be spent etc) XP are an issue separate from the skill tree and unique to long time players and supporters.

So I made this topic not only to point this out but to discuss it overall, in case there are things I am not considering, and to discuss real "solutions" to the notion that it is an eventuality that we will all have pools of unspendable XP, its just a matter of time.

Maybe the excess exp can be used for new additions like 2 new auxiliary roles in drops or something. Maybe Aerotech? Mechbay crew? Maybe some kind of faction strategic element?

Interesting, interesting. It just needs to make some semblance of sense really.

just sell all your modules for half cbills

its better than getting more skill points than you can ever possibly spend

There is nothing that you can use excess XP on in the current system unless you want to spend MC to convert it to GXP for leveling use on another Mech. In the new system you will be able to use a little bit of it if you ever want to respec the Mech you earned it on.

Isn't XP->MC->GXP part of the buisness of every F2P titel?

In the long run, I would like to see them use excess XP to unlock a few more Skill Tree nodes. Eg., once you unlock 24 Skill Tree nodes, you have earned 'Basic' mastery of that mech. Basic Mastery allows you to spend 25,000 XP to unlock a 'bonus' skill node. (Like we unlock a Module slot now) Of course you wouldn't use it at that point, since you need your XP to unlock the rest of your 91 nodes first, but it would be available.

At 52 nodes unlocked, you have 'Elited' your mech and can unlock another bonus skill node for 50,000 XP. At 91 nodes unlocked, you have Mastered your mech and can unlock a 3rd node for 100,000 XP. At 120 nodes unlocked you Champion master your mech, unlock 4th bonus skill node for 200,000 XP. And for the truly insane, at 150 nodes unlocked you reach Hero mastery of your mech and unlock the 5th bonus skill node for 300,000 or 400,000 XP. 96 Skill nodes total for Hero mastery, and tons of excess XP used up.

(Plus, from PGI's point of view, you now have reason to grind XP forevah!)

well a full mastered mech is 91 nodes active. there is 240 nodes that you can buy but only have 91 active. so unless someone has tons of xp on a mech they got plenty to spend it on. Thats assuming they want to change the mech up from time to time

Yeah the idea of respec costs gives this version of XP much more of a sink, but I don't think people will be changing their skill trees up too much at all once they get settled, and when new gear or changes come in the future you would think they would reset trees and SP with the changes.

It really seems without some other form of sink that we will eventually (some people immediately) be stacked with pools of XP that do nothing and just get larger.
