Death Blossom!

I'm overwhelmed by this patch. Tried to get my favorite mech back in spec to what it was before, but there are too many useless nodes standing in the way. Frustrated!?!

Keep at it, you can get around some of the useless nodes.

I *think* quirks and skills are calculated independently and then added in:

(Base Armor) + (Base Armor * Armor Quirk) + (Base Armor * Armor Skill) = total armor

Yes Atlas D with full Survival tree has insane amounts of armor.

Guys seriously ignore everything else about this patch and go buy yourselves a hunchback 4p and fill it with SPL. Max out heat reduction, heat containment, cool run and laser duration nodes and get as many range nodes as you can and if you have any left cooldown. Don't worry too much about agility and invest some armour nodes for that hunch.......

...... The thing is a bloody beast! I've just had a solo brawl as an example with a fresh mauler MX90 and three centre torso alphas saw me get a lucky engine crit and a kill took about six seconds in all to kill a fresh assault mech. And I waddled off to kill more guys. Missing my entire left side and most of my armour mind.

is there anyone who can confirm if the armor- or structure-quirks react to the nodes as well? or do the corresponding nodes only affect base armor and base structure? because that could make an immense difference on some mechs.

short calculating example without any specific mech in mind, just to clarify my question:

30 armor + node bonus 10% = 33 armor

30 armor + 10 armor quirk = 40 armor, +node bonus 10% = 44 armor

The nodes calculate after quirks that means you get for the quirks extra bonus tried it with serval mechs.
Armor and Structure Quirks.

So I bought some warhammers on one of my alt accounts and leveled the 6D the past couple of days...

I wanted to see what the grind would be like on an account with no GXP/GSP/HSP to use for insta-skilling a mech...

Submitted for your analysis:

Posted Image

So it took 7 hours of play time, and 59 games... by my math, that's ~1.3 skill points per game which means I was constantly leveling the mech (I laid a few eggs here-n-there where I didn't get 800xp for a skill, but had other matches that I cashed in 4...).

From a "feel" standpoint, it is different from the old system in that your progress is much more incremental as opposed to going multiple games without unlocking a skill. It felt slow in the beginning, but as the mech improved, my performance improved so as opposed to the old system where you are trying to gather up 6k/8.5k/21.5k XP chunks to progress, I was get a skill or two at a time.

So I won't claim that this experience is what anyone/everyone should expect, but I will pose the hypothetical question:

is 7 hours of game time *too grindy* for a mech chassis?

Didn't seem so for me but I might be weird... Posted Image

Note: I did spend GXP as I earned it which explains why he didn't earn enough total XP on his own...

1st win of the day bonuses will made a difference - especially if you have a good game on that 1st win

if you are not in a huge hurry to master a mech, and have a few to do then i would recommend grinding until you get the 1st wins each day then move on to the next mech and repeat

double xp = half the grind

thank you very much for looking into this and confirming. i think they will change that, because it could prove a bit too powerfull with a few mechs (one of the battlemasters has insane quirks but less hardpoints for a more defensive focus, which was the reason i bought it at the time and could now profit a bit too much from the concerning nodes, same goes for the one marauder with only 4 energy hardpoints, but more defensive quirks. tho i doubt these nodes will make the dragon more popular all of the sudden).

Question for PGI... previously you've said many times as an example about engine desync that Atlas's will be the same agility as Kodiaks...yet in actual #s you've given them... they're significantly more agile than Kodiaks. Why is that ?

I don't speak for PGI, but I would guess that it is because of all the "Clans are OP" whining they are constantly bombarded with.

In old system in 7 hour you masterd 3 good mechs like Warhammers.
For one bad mech you ned 3-4 hour to full master.
Now you need 7 hour to master one good mech.
Nicly done PGI.

But the bonuses you get now are more than what one mastered mech used to get.

Again, i am not saying "it takes 7 hours to level a mech" and honestly i started with a watered down tryhard build (no xl) in lurmlandia in QP...

But i wanted to get the "Is this an unrealistic grind?" Dialogue rolling.... and i wanted to qualify it with my own experiences instead of reying soley on others'.

Tnx

Note: in looking at some of my less-used mastered mechs on my main acct, i would say 3 chassis mastered in 7 hours would be a bit unrealistic, for my experiencr anyway. Getting that last 21,5k xp each was a bear...

Also, you no longer can boost a mechs performance out of the gate with modules so that affects your xp grind as well...

Along with the Cbills too. During the Incursion event, I effectively soloed the enemy base in an Awesome and got over 7000xp(1st victory bonus) and 317k cbills(w/premium time).

I posted back when they first introduced the mode that they needed to reduce the rewards, but since they didn't...

No, don't reduce Objective rewards. That would be bad. We need higher rewards for achieving wins by objectives. Conquest and Incursion are the best two game modes currently.

It's already bad enough that most matches end up as "skirmish with a bit of fluff".

I want to see all of the train tracks used for another form of escort.

I'd like to see scouting have additional modes where it's not just gather the intel points, but travel through Nav points like MW2 had(needs to be dynamically generated nav points so that defenders don't just go to the same place every time).

MW2 had a bunch of objective missions that could be interesting potentially: destroy a specific building at Crimson Straight(dynamically chosen for each match).

All of these ideally would be focused in Faction Play to give us A LOT more variety there. And I desperately want to see Skirmish eliminated from Faction Play, all the rest are great, but Skirmish has to go. My unit is big on not farming for kills/damage and if we're winning in Faction Play, we would much rather achieve the objective than get a 48:24 win. It's demoralizing to have it happen to us so I won't do it to my opponents.

LOL right back to you. Even if it only takes 1 minute a mech ,I am still looking at well over 6 hours of that mini game that you want to dismiss as "no time".

For Kerensky's sake PGI, please just add an "apply predefined default skill build" button for each mech so people can stop crying about the horrible burden of having to re-skill all of their Mechs (even though they probably never use most of them).
