No, no and no.
The old system was a "placeholder" that stuck around way too long.
(PGI noted for 3+ years that the "placeholder" system was gonna change at some point, it's too bad they waited so long to do so.)
3 mechs to master system was just dumb and everybody thought so, 3 mechs to master just to get the main mech you like to be better than viable was just silly.
Now we buy the mech we like and master it from there.

How about instead, we keep the new system, stream line the UI, give new players more bonus XP (or just give em GSP) to help compensate for errors and experimentation, put in a reference guide explaining the percentages and exactly how they work (e.g. The bonus % that lights get with the survival tree, the base line stats for lasers so that the new players realize just what they are getting with the duration skills, etc.), and then gives us a "save tree" and "apply saved tree" functions, and then nerver speak of this again? Sound okay?
