...that I'm actually kinda upset that I got compensated over 7,600 GSP, not because I'd have rather had CBills but because I actually derived joy out of grinding the skills out on new 'mechs and now I will never need to grind with a new 'mech again?

Technically you don't "need" to use those GSP and you can just grind normally, although that of course makes the currency useless...
Should've sold your modules before the patch, even at a 50% rate you'd probably get more use out of that than GSP.
