Yep, that's a lot of unnecessary ammo on the A1. Probably spending 6 tons Artemis instead would serve better purpose, especially since LRM5 spread was nerfed.
Yeah, but keep in mind that Heavy Rain was created in Closed Beta. I've been away for four years, so it hasn't been updated yet.
Back then Artemis really sucked so you were better off taking the 12 tons of ammo. The mech was also designed to be used with two other Heavy Rains and a medium mech body guard as a full lance. All we did was sit back 100-200 meters behind the front line and let loose with LRM5s in chainfire. It always freaked out the enemy pilots when they just saw three streams of missiles coming from three different positions. It also softened them up enough that the other two lances could destroy them.
The 12 tons of ammo was to ensure that you had enough to last the entire match. Believe it or not, but Heavy Rain could easily go through 6 tons of ammo. There were matches with even 12 tons we had run dry due to how LRMs were working back then. This was after Lurmaggedon, so they would frequently hit hills, the ground, buildings, etc... due to them being nerfed really badly.
Ahh the good old days.
