As the title hints, we all know the danger the locust presents.

It's ability to spread damage across its 330 hit boxes from every shot, to its blistering 538kph speed, to its amazing ability to carry as many or more medium lasers than some heavy mechs, even though it's a fraction of the size and power output. We all learn to fear the name, Pirates Bane. (this is sarcasm btw)

Any pilot who has faced one has felt the pain of the cheese they present and the rage at dying to it because of out of bounds game mechanics. Even the Dire Star cannot stop it. So instead of waiting for a dev fix that will never come I turn to the forums and ask for your best loadouts and success stories for defeating the bane of MWO. The new skill tree system should allow for some unique combinations to help swat this annoying menace.

I for one, LOVE the new skill tree system. It has allowed for quick and easy customizations of mechs and to give them quirks they never had. My current favorite is the mad dog. Dusting off this old bird, putting on a fresh coat of paint, and a boat load of sensor and missile skills has put the fun back into LRM boating. With a blistering +bonus to velocity / cooldown on the mech already plus the additional skill boost, and a beagle probe its almost like firing UAC. Max sensor skill + beagle probe combo shrugs off the most aggressive ECM campaign.

And so I shall begin with MY locust kill story. In comes a pirates bane all painted white, machine guns blazing, looking for easy structure kills. He lag blitzes in and jumps in front of me, attacking a guy that was smoking and hurt real bad. At about 300meters I let loose a barrage of 40 artemis clan missiles into his backside. Doesn't kill him but strips him of his armor and putting some structure points into the red (Again I call BS on a mech that size). Making him mad enough to stop his attack, rage up and come after me, machine guns blazing, on my fresh mech hehe. I back into the wall and get ready for a fight. The guy he was attacking turns around and pops him. I never laughed so hard in my life. Purchased and hung up the golden pirate doubloon as a memento for the kill.Posted Image

Post your best locust kills. Would love to know the best mechs and loadouts to hunt them. My Viper is pretty close but even with max skills I can only get him to 140kph, but his jump jets really help out, especially when skilled out.

I shot a locust that was running directly away from me with 6 MLas and an AC/20. In the back. RIP.

Once upon a time...

Actually, I was piloting an Atlas D-DC w/ ECM. I had just moved up between two buildings on the Crimson Straits map, as a friendly mech went running past me in the opposite direction. Suddenly, a Locust rounds the corner in pursuit, right into my AC/20 as I am firing it, hitting it in the 'head.'

So the answer to your question is...sometimes it just comes down to luck.

I one shot a Locust while piloting the Trial Dragon a while back. Tourmaline Desert. He and a buddy of his were playing the peek-a-boo game with our team. I got so annoyed that I shot my Gauss in their general direction, hit the Locust, and he went down. Must of scared his buddy 'cause we didn't see him again till the end of the game.

Many, many people have "one shot a lolcust" poor little guy...

I recall being reminded of why not to peak twice in the same spot... verses a dual gauss jaeger...

Edit - I was in a lolcust at the time...

The amount of times I have killed a locust via 2 ppcs to the rear CT, but there was this one other time I killed a locust with my Jenner IIC when it decided to standstill with it's back facing towards me.

Wasn't against a locust, but I have a similar story against an Arctic Cheetah. Was climbing the ramp on Crimson in my Banshee. A Cheetah rounded one of those building on the platform to start shooting the back of a Marauder IIC already up there, and he somehow didn't see me. He just stopped to take his shots, so lined up my shot and put a full alpha into his back. The ragdoll flopped so hard onto the platform I could swear the pilot got shot through to the other side.

Best loadout is not forking over $$ and flipping them off as you die and start a new match.

You used 40 LRMs on him and actually get surprised when the Locust didn't die? LRMs spread their damage too much. Locust surviving such alpha is common occurence.

Just get a Clan Streak boat.
You'll be one-shotting locusts left and right.

A pity that IS Streak 4/6 will cost twice as much as Clan Streak 4/6, without doing double the damage.

Am I the only one who think that locusts actually fit in the role of light mech perfectly? We need more locusts, not less.

Any kind of laser vomit works well against locusts and lights. And yeah, locusts feel like they have been in a very good spot since the skill tree.

Just last night I had a mechgasm watching Bearclaw play Lolcust. He killed nine people (CRAZY maneuvering and twitching all the time, one by one). Scored over 1100 damage. I am still in awe. I am not worthy. I am thinking of uninstalling the game.

His final boss was...Urbie. I **** you not. And Urbie was left without ammo, only Bear didn't notice it at first.

They will also have much less range.

Because reasons.
