UAV's can get shot down instantly where lets say Seismic last until you die.

The only sensor worth its investment is seismic honestly unless you have a light and wanna ECM then you can boost it while getting seismic.

As far as i can tell Seismic is gonna be a thing of the past Winter you are correct there but its still needed on a mech or two in your drops. Maybe a brawl light or medium to cover corners and butts as well as on light mechs because INFO and SPEED (both in shots and decisions) is life for many lights mechs.

But out liners are showing themselves, JR7-F for example...

Yeah, in any kind of competitive or even large group play, I'd definitely want a mech or two with Seismic, no doubt. That's pretty good, though, IMHO: Pre Skill Tree, you'd basically assume (largely correctly) that Seismic was on every mech. Now, that's simply not the case. Taking Seismic has a rather extreme opportunity cost, so while someone MAY take seismic, they have to give up an awful lot to do so. I'd take the Armor Tree and it's 15% (or more!) health per facing over Seismic in a heartbeat.

There are definite tricks to getting mileage out of UAV's. You're never going to get long term UAV life when LRM's are involved (and should never expect it) but if you pop a UAV close - where it's not hovering in peoples LOS, you'll typically get a good 10s or more with it. The UAV's that get popped immediately are the ones launched when the opfor is far enough away that people can actually see it. UAV's are (for me, at least) almost entirely a infowar tool specifically for brawls, where they basically just entirely replace the Sensors tree.

Yeah I find UAVs to be worth it even if it's up for mere seconds, provided I pop it at the right time. If we're going to push I want that situational awareness - it's worth the 40,000 C.

Generally I'll try to pop near a tall obstacle or some other kind of cover so it's harder to see, but on the other hand if one wishes to push there's nothing like having two UAVs popped so if one goes down the other is still up. I hate to say it because I've witnessed it on my own team many times before too (probably have been guilty of it myself) but often when someone downs a UAV that has been called out the team sort of forgets to look in case there was more than one.

Multiple UAVs has been the death of more teams I've been on and vice versa than I could easily count...

Yup. UAV's are by an far my favourite consumable. Seismic only shows you moving mechs, and only when you're not moving. It's great and all, but nobody shoots down UAV's before they've revealed the OpFor's locations to your entire team. Seismic gives YOU a burst of intel when you stop, but UAV's help your whole team. I love them to bits.

The "getting shot down" thing isn't much of a problem. I just assume they'll only last a couple seconds and anything beyond that is gravy.

From a game design standpoint, few people running Seismic is a very good thing. When everyone runs it (because in the module system, what else are you gonna run?) it acts as a severe light mech nerf; it's just wallhack for everyone. Less seismic is a good thing all around. They never should have added it in the first place, IMHO. Radar Derp as well for that matter.
