"07" when you stomp, we salute you for fighting.

"gg" when its close

"WP" when your team gets stomped.
(But if you did more damage than the rest of your team combined "team too heavy" or "What do you guys want me to do with this sack of taters?" depending on your mood)

Back in the days of Starcraft (not Starcraft II), you would still say GG, even if you crushed your opponent in like 5 mins, (or 2). It is a generational thing. Just like GL HF at the beginning of a match, now that just triggers the "DID YOU JUST ASSUME I CAN'T HAVE FUN!?!?!?" crowd

If you crushed your opponent in StarCraft and said GG before they did, you were kind of a ****. Basically telling them to get out of the game already, when you hadn't actually won according to the rules.

It's a little different in MWO, as the game usually reaches it's end state (unlike SC where one side effectively surrenders), but even then if you're throwing out a GG at the end of a 12-0 on the winning side, you're still probably kind of a ****.

The main problem with GG is that it is forced to mean two things at once because of peoples sensitive feelings. The majority of people mean it in the spirit it is intended to be used in but since a sizable minority of people really mean GGEZ (Good Game Easy) to be mean, but they are not allowed to be honest without many devs punishing them for it. So the Intention of the Player was not removed by the banning of GGEZ but forced it into corrupting the original GG which is safe to use even if on the winning team. It is just one small microcosm of the overall problem inherent in todays political and social systems by moralizing busybodies trying to control everyones behavior. Bad behavior exists & people want to do it... so, using GG as part of a winning 12-2 Rollstomp really means GGEZ even if you did not intend it to be because that is how everyone reads it. A member of losing team can use GG with impuinity since there is no misconception possible but a member of a winning team is restricted to 12-7 or better to make a clear sign of respect.

Good game.

Really it should only be said in cross team chat by the losers of the match, after someone on the losing team says it or in very close games e.g. our team is all dead but we won by points.

Otherwise it is more polite to say it in your team's chat.

gg is "good game". You can say it whenever you want, and should be taken as a sign of good sportsmanship. Anyone who means it as anything else is not someone who you need to take seriously.

If one is taking offense after being stomped 0-12, and are told "gg" in the correct spirit, but still get all bent out of shape, they can pound sand.

Lets not ruin a bit of civility left on the internet. Posted Image

I believe that after stomps most people saying "gg" aren't even saying it to the opposite team. They just want to share the joy of a good win with teammates. The problem is in MWO it switches from "team chat" to "global chat" after the match ends. So everything becomes public unless you make an additional effort to hide your celebration.

in MW4 it mean "good game" and people actually meant that when they said it in sportsmanship. Here in MWO though must be teenagers or young adults that don't know the meaning of sportsmanship and they have twisted and perverted the actual meaning and turned it into an insult.

We said it almost every game in MW4 just as Coolant says, I've said it for years and my teams I've coached that my kids were on have all said it as it is BASIC sportsmanship.

Anyone who loses a match and takes their opponent's "gg" to mean "git gud" is telling you more about what they themselves would say if the roles were reversed. Without the context of human contact, you project your own attitudes, not the author's, onto to two little text letters.

Every time I see someone complain about receiving a "gg," I know I've met someone with extremely poor sportsmanship.

It is a double whammy.

Good Game or Get Good. Basically a compliment or insult depending on what is going on in the mind of the person typing it. I personally don't use it because of its potential dual meaning. Rather I just say GOOD GAME to make myself clear.

For me it's always "Good Game" and never "Git Gud". I'm always appreciative of my opponents (because they could be my teammates in the next match), whether I'm part of the stomping team or the stomped. I've rolled off too many great games into crap games to understand that someone might just be having a bad match, day or a brain fart on the battlefield, like I may have had last match myself, to insult them.

its always GoodGame for me,

i have said GG on a 1-12 before, both on me winning and losing,
i was in a brawl with another player it was a hard brawl and lasted 3minutes,
i lost the battle, but his team also lost the match, 2-12 it was a good fight so i posted GG,
its kinda up to the situation, you can have a close 1-12, where the enemy is very banged up,

that is not a "good game" then... if people are not finishing off cored pieces. It is very easy to read as mockery since a sizable percentage of the population will be intending it as mockery. Without visual or audio ques then it has to be read flat, and is easily intended as such in a flat reading of GG in a 1-12 rollstomp that was unquestionably demonstrated not to be "good" for the losing team in the slightest. I rarely ever say GG myself and the only times I do is when it was just as unquestioningly a Good Game 12-8+ from the winner or loser side. Saying GG in a rollstomp just reads condescending to me when I read it myself

A few years back, I recall that the infamous House of Lords used "ggclose" to sarcastically indicate that the game was really not that close, that they stomped you good. Easier to interpret, considering the source.

It means GOOD GAME, or maybe GIT GUD? or you can think it as a handshake, you win or lose, in the end, you're gonna go to your opponent and shake their hands just like what you see on game tournament.

I know some people get triggered when they lose the game, and then one of them said GG and hes like "GG? We fu*king lost man!" haha, funny people...

I find it just esier to turn off enemy chat.. It's typically nothing more than trolling more often than not.

So to my team i typically say GJ in a win, Or good try in a close loss.. Not much to say if we get totally rolled.. :P

I'll GG if I enjoyed the game regardless of the outcome, sometimes that is on the losing side of a roll, sometimes on the winning side.... all depends on the specific parts of the fight I was involved in.

If he enjoyed the game then yes it was a good game.

Remember, its not how you the reader interprets it that matters, its what the writer means that matters. Modern society seems to have this backwards for some reason and need to get over themselves (yey generalization Posted Image).

I only bother/remember to say it after someone else had said it (almost always in a normal/genuine GG way) and someone got butthurt over it. Once someone QQs about it I'll join in on occasion farmng the salty pug.

btw it means good game in 99.9% of times. No one abbreiviates git gud to gg, and if they do it's an extremely recent thing. like the past year or 2 and that meaning must only be getting traction in some other game I don't know about. GG has meant good game since forever.

if you want to wind someone up you usually say "git gud" "rekt" "pwnt" "gg ez" "gg nore" "ggclose" or something.

GG: short for Gobble my Gonads, this is a internet insult started back in the 1970's by a player in the game called mazewars on the arpanet. The player "mcspooging" was notorious for using colorful comments when getting kills.
Players began copying this phrase and shortened it to GG through out out gaming's long history.

In the last few decades GG is starting to be replaced by tea-bagging in a effort to mimick the action of gonad gobbling . Recently many people have wrongfully determined that GG is sportsmanship like phrase akin to shaking hands at the end of a match. This can be attributed to the desire of many gamers looking for a kinder gentler internet.

As with all things on the net it will evolve and who knows if GG will end up being a textualized reference for tea-bagging, or a meaningful gesture of sportsmanship. It could also transform into something else entirely, such is the way of phraseology in the information age.
