So after a years long absence, I like what PGI has done with the maps.
Being able to vote for a map and game type is awesome.

What is not, is being out voted in favor of a cold/sniping map 99% of the time.
On top of that most of the selected maps involve little or no strategy other than sniping at the other team from cover or dishing out LRMS till their line breaks. Both fine tactics but its really repetitive really fast.

Lastly nothing is worse than selecting your favorite brawling mech, only to be out voted and stuck on a sniping map.

I know how we can fix this somewhat; borrow the drop deck from faction play and modify it slightly so that if your selected mech is still in a game, you auto switch to your second or third choice. It's not ideal but it'd work alot better. I think the idea of selecting the map first, and then the mech, makes way way way more sense than the way it's currently set up and is probably how actual mechwarriors from the lore would probably go about it.

What do you think PGI? Worth investigating?

This wouldnt fix anything it will make the meta on maps even worse. The multiplier does a good job in breaking of the meta you just have to play a few games.

This is the issue ive always had with the map selection in this game... It seems that every time we achieve orbit in our dropships, that the landing sequence goes like this:

I mean thats the only reason I can think of that we cant select the map we fight on, because we crash every time we drop

Youd think that would get expensive after a while.

Never let Troy pilot. We were told repeatedly in the show that Riker was a great pilot, but nope. Have the counsellor fly it.

Edit: My phone turned Riker into Broker. GG

Your view of the existing MAPs imho shows you do not really know/understand them .

Please do not get me wrong, I am perfectly aware that many Games on several Maps almost ALWAYS are played in the exact same way in SP QP Queue. But that is not a flaw in Map Design...its a flaw of human nature . And a sign of the sadly clueless and boring mindset of too many MW:O players.

In my point of view, every single MAP in MW:O offers enough for a variety of Strategies to be employed . There can be "brawling" Games on "Sniper" or "LRM" Maps, and all the other ways round . But tbh., already those simple classifictions dont do the Maps any justice .

QP Group Queue not rarley has the Quality to show what is really possible on the Maps . How 2, 3 smartly played 'Mechs can herd an entire Team into a KillBox, where they promptly get shot at from all sides by 'Mechs suddenly appearing on all the Ridges around them . Unless the other Team knows the counter. How 1,2 'Mechs can close down 1 or 2 very important moving Lanes, making it impossible for the enemy team to close in without having to cross open Terrain . Unless the enemy Team knows the counter . Etc .

Actually, possible tactics can also be seen in SP QP Queue, in Matches where you think one Team sked hard and was wiped for no apparent reason . That is often because the other Team magically has employed a really nifty Strategy, without knowing about it, or having communicated about it . Or it was just a really bad Matchup XD .

All of that may sound weird to you, but I think its true .

I don't know why people are complaining about so many sniping maps. To me, it seems like the most popular maps are:
  • HPG Manifold (brawling map)
  • Canyon (usually a brawling map)
  • Mining collective (brawling map)
  • Frozen city (sometimes sniping map, sometimes brawling)
  • Crimson straight (brawling map)
  • Grim Plexus (sometimes sniping map, sometimes brawling)
I know there's a lot of Polar Highlands this weekend, but that's just because of the event and the LRM farming.

No, it's a flaw in map design.

The solution is pretty simple too, just add a few variations to spawn locations and pick one at random. That's a really easy way to get some more variety out of the same maps. Just imagine for instance that instead of spawning NW and SE on Forest Colony, people spawned N and S on the far left of the map, or even W and E at the top of the map. It'd play out quite differently I'd imagine

The issue is more apparent due to pugs trying to get high scores in the event using LRM Assaults--and cold open map is perfect for them. Wait until the event ends. You will see Viridian Bog, HPG, Mining, etc again, soon enough.

I have hated voting in this game from the beginning and I hate it now. What I don't understand is how the OP can call it awesome and then proceed to complain about what is being voted on...Posted Image

Once this assault event is over I expect the maps the do not play into brawlers hands to have reduced votes. I sure hope so anyway because I really don't care for either one of those. And it surprised the hell out of me when Alpine or Polar won over Canyon Network - which is easily my favorite map.

i have only seen the same 4 maps, grim plexus frozen, city, polar highlands, and rarely crimson straight. even more rare than getting those maps is getting the goddamn option to choose hpg manifold, river city, mining collective, or canyon network. The easiest solution i can see is lower the rate at which the former maps appear to be voted for, and boost the latter. Especially boost mining collective, that map is rarer than chicken teeth

I disagree. I have voted for Terra Therma every time it has showed up in the rotation over the past week with as high as a 7x multiplier and guess how many times I have play Terra Therma? If you guess ZERO, then you would be right.

Antoher one that I always vote on in the rotation IF Terra Therma isn't up is Viridian Bog. I think have played it a total of 3 times in the last week.

HPG? Probably 30 times. Torm? 20+ times. Polar? 20+ times. Frozen City? 25+ times.

Sorry but this is an issue because lets be honest here, this game is very short on maps which makes the game very repetitive and boring at times and map voting just makes the issue worse.

So in my opinion they should remove voting entirely or if they want to keep voting in, regulate the selections so that if a map is voted less it will show up more often while higher voted maps show up less often until there is some sort of balance achieved.

the picking a mech b4 the map is a huge flaw and i even think map choice should show the time of day on maps with time of day.

and in a system with 4 maps to vote the minority always win, the majority didnt want to play the winning map which is dumb. Make it a 2 map choice and you will get majority, until then, voting its just a waste of everyones time. If it wasnt for X farming we would hardly get to play something different than 4 maps. yeah, its a bad system any ways to try to fix it.

If my last year of playing is any indication, no. We will be back at playing polar and grim on domination/skirmish 75% of the time.

Did you seriously reply to a post that was written 10 months ago? Posted Image

Tons of things have changed, such as the inclusion of Escort, and Incursion modes, which skewed map selection.
