Greetings MechWarriors. Today I have a simple question. With the upcoming release of IS U-AC/10s, which is better to field? Quad U-AC/5s or Dual to Tri U-AC/10s? Which is better and why? For Clan side too!

I'm thinking other than the anni and maybe the ilya, no other IS mechs can run tri uac10s
But double uac10s might be preferable on some assaults with the want to conserve tonnage for a large engine to bring the assault force to the front line faster at the cost of some range

A pair of UAC/10 and Large Lasers on a Warhammer might be neat. Depends on implementation; if the jamming is really bad and it's burst-fire, probably better to stick with UAC/5.

A Mauler might be a viable mech for a 3x UAC10. The MX90 can currently run 5x or 6x AC5s pretty well. I think the stock one even comes with 4x UAC5s.

You won't be able to fit 2x UAC/10 into a single side torso, so no Mauler.

i wont know about the is versions until they launch.

on the clan side i prefer the uac10 as a stand alone weapon on a mixed build, and the uac5 for boats. is side the 10s will eat up all your space and tonnage and its gonna be hot.

on my DW's I have one setup with 4 UAC5's X 4 Med ERL, Another setup with 2 UAC10's and 2 Large ERL's and finally, my current mech with 2 UAC20's and 2 Large ERLs'. That one runs HOT, but manageable.

As for which is better? That depends on your fighting style. But I like the UAC10's....if I can control the stupid jamming rate as it's REALLY STUPID!

On the UAC20 mech, surprisingly, it jams LESS for some odd reason.

Mix them. One of the better Mad-IIC builds runs cERPPC, UAC10 and twin UAC5s. Nothing stopping you anymore.

Honestly, UACs are DPS weapons, right? Especially if they burst fire? The RAC5 might be the way to go.

Here's my observation. If possible UAC/5s are slightly better in quad form over dual or tri UAC/10s. Better range, much higher velocity, and less heat. While you can alpha tri-UAC/10s the ghost heat makes this prohibitively expensive during a brawl. I'm not sure that I'd want RACs simply because I'd have to focus fire the enemy, exposing my CT.
