Let me get this out of the way: MWO has been working just fine with my hardware, which includes an HD7850/2GB.

Then came Windows Creator update. Posted Image

Now MWO generates the "Unsupported video card detected!" error/warning. If I continue, the game will load, but only runs in a small window. I cannot change the resolution (that setting pull-down is, literally, greyed out... I don't even know for sure what the current resolution is).

And yes I've tried every other game I have installed and they are all working fine so while everyone will want to bash Microsoft, there is clearly a unique issue between the creator update, AMD drivers, and MWO.

Anyone else seen anything like this?

Are you using the Steam version, or the standalone client?

If Steam, have you tried validating game cache?

Have you tried checking for video driver updates after the Win10 creator update?

We've seen this happen once so far, and the solution was to install the latest Radeon Drivers. If you have already done this, or if updating doesn't actually solve your problem, then please contact support. They'd be more than happy to help you get to the bottom of this.

I see this error with my 1060 if I launch the game before the background driver stuff comes up, or if I disable some of those 'features' I might see it 50% of the time ... really the game doesn't really recognise anything after the NVidia 6XX series ... circa 2013, hint hint ... and I don't think that AMD or intel drivers are any more up to date ... at my end it doesn't produce any strange effects in game ... still loads the selected 4K resolution, and doesn't have any performance impact ...

Thanks for the feedback. Got it working last night. For anyone else running into this...

Tried a whole bunch of stuff which didnt work including:
Latest whql drivers from AMD.
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.
Uninstalled and reinstalled MWO.

Then I tried AMD's "please dont use unless you really must" complete uninstall utility. I let WUP install its choice of driver (which is not the latest) and...FIXED!

Since April there have been posts in other games with similar Creator update issues. Other than rolling back the Windows update, a few users had to roll back to an older driver. Others with FPS issues, GPU/Monitor was using the lowest 24hz instead of 60hz, and the players used Custom Resolution Utility program which allows custom resolutions to be defined for both AMD/ATI and NVIDIA GPUs by creating EDID overrides directly in the registry without dealing with .inf files.

I spoke to soon. Everything was fine yesterday afternoon. This morning...same problem. No evidence of Windows Update or AMD messing with the driver between then and now. Even so I tried the same complete uninstall-then-install driver routine...except this time that didn't fix it.

Long story short I had to disable Windows' own hardware driver updates, clean uninstall, and then use drivers from February. Seems like its working...again (for now at least).

So we've been hearing that the most common issue with the Creators Update is actually with "Game Mode", a new feature in which Windows tries to help you "play your games with the best possible experience." There are two ways to disable this feature - global shutoff via the settings menu (Windows Settings -> Gaming -> Game Mode) or on a game-by-game basis (within the game, assuming it launches, hit Windows Key + g, click the cog icon, Game Mode is the topmost section in the General tab).

To anyone experiencing this issue, please let us know if this helps work around the problem while we try to identify why "Game Mode" isn't working.

I have this issue and I'm still on the Anniversary Update.

I am running Windows 7 with a Radeon 480 8GB card and get the same "unsupported video card" error pop up. Game runs fine though. I do not think this is a Win 10 Creator Update issue. My game runs fine on my Nvidia based gaming laptop Win 10.
