Every gaming community, and every public forum for that matter has it's share of trolls, uber-obsessesed, rule lawyers and nazis, and then the more common way player.
When the "I have no life" crowd spends 80 hours a week on the game, and start dominating every objective with their alliances, point gaming, loophole exploits and such, all you can do is hope the Dev's and Mods find a way to nip it in the bud. I too roll my eyes at some of the "demands" some of the Clans, Merc Units and others make (sorry fellas, I love my Battletech, but I also have a job, and a real life, doing things with real people in the real world. It's actually really neat to meet other humans face to face and socialize)
But by the same token, there are definitely rules I do think need to be followed. For those who want Clan Mechs and Uziels and such RIGHT NOW. Sorry, that canon you like to crap on, because you "don't care about the game history and back story and just want to smash stuff with my Timber Wolf" is the sole thing that made the Mechwarrior franchise take off in the first place.
If the Devs having a plan, and sticking to the Btech timeline offends your monty hall point gaming mentalllity, go play armored core or something. This is obviously a labor of love from people who enjoy and respect the Battletech canon.
For those who are just waiting to get to play Clan pilots and mechs, and then plan to go willy nilly and gang attack people and such, I hope they are monitored and guided, as otherwise the game play balance will be totally broken, as the only thing that made the Clans playable in the past was their strict adherence to their own code of honor. I can guarantee most players salivating for a Timber Wolf have no intention of following Zellbrigen or care about it.
Why should it matter?
When you and some friends go to play tennis, how fun is it when a couple of them just stand around and knock the ball back and forth? RUles give structure, structure IS the game.

The skjaldborg: shieldwall of rasalhague might be a good place to look. They're a pretty silly bunch, and love all things that have to do with beer and horned helmets.
There's another unit out there, can't remember it's name, that was being formed specifically around the idea of just enjoying the game, and not being all serious.
What a lot of players do is place an add for them selves in the recruitment thread, stating what they are looking for, and let the various merc units come to them.
Good luck.

most of them are obsessed lore nazis and hierarchical structured no-lifers with obnoxious rules and ideologies...
(inb4theflame: yeah that doesn't apply to all clans/groups/teams whatever)

Also how much will the monthly fee be to play only a few hours a day on only a couple days?
So there lies the clan/house/merc. group to try and join for some decent team play,I played on a league with BF2,they had monthly fees to pay to play, the play was fun team play but there was the time constraints of real life and so it really wasent worth it to play.
And I guess I like the team play as im 45 years old not that skilled (especially FPS and BF2-3 )like to play a role to help the team as a whole,
be it scout,fire support etc.
Will It actually be fun and worth the time and $ that are both limited to me to play this game when you have ppl that devote 80 hours a week become very skilled ,destroy me in literal minutes, and then have to pay in earned c bills for playing to repair mech and re-arm etc.
Ive waited forever for this particular game, MW was the first game I ever played online and just fell in love with the universe although not as hard core as the BT crowd I do like the canon and back story as i do have a majority of the books.
So what to do what to do??

To become a skilled player, you don't have to spend obscene hours -you need a sharp mind and maybe a few pointers based on your particular deficiencies that prevent you from calling yourself a skilled player. Finding the right group would definitely be a something too look for and from there the rest with solve itself -it's free to play so it's just a matter of playing it with people that you care to play with. You don't have to meet people face to face to enjoy playing with them.

Not to be a ***** but (little understanding of FTP) nothing is free
Actually plenty of things are free, but in case some people want to pay, no one is going to have "no we don't want your money, this is free" attitude.
