We are moving into a new era and conflict so shouldn't we need an entire new set of maps ?

Leaving the "old set" in CW and keep the production on that way in order to have a wide range of maps for CW eventually.

It feels like we are laggying behind on that department.

Did you think about the realities of this question at all before you posted it? Not what you want as a player, but from PGI's perspective?

It takes a lot of time (and thus resources) to make a map. They do keep adding new maps, but it took many years to get the maps we have now. Obviously, they can't just wave their hands and make a whole new set of maps. Lets say it takes 2 months to make a map. We've got, what, 19 maps now? It'd take years to make that many new maps.

It's just not going to happen, it's basically impossible.

It's more of an idealistic thing , i'm not that obssesed with the limitations we have on this game. That's why i put "EVENTUALLY" instead of a huge "NO!!!"

Last time someone said IMPOSSIBLE.....was about a timeskip and guess what .......here we are now :)

Huh? No, we've always known they would advance the timeline. PGI has been up front about that from the very start. Nobody said that was impossible.

But by impossible, I didn't mean "PGI just won't do that", I meant "it's actually impossible". PGI physically lacks the manpower to do that. PGI could (and likely will) continue making new maps, but simply replacing all the existing maps would be dumb. There's a lot of money and resources invested in them, and they're perfectly usable maps. New maps can be made and added, removing the existing ones is pointless - just having ever more maps gives us more variety.

Adding the new tech isn't a big deal. There's some work in adding new graphics for the new weapons and balancing the stats, but ultimately adding more weapons is comparatively easy. Adding a single map takes months of work. Replacing 19 is a tremendous endeavour.

According to many people, new maps do not make PGI any money. So shut it and go buy a Mech pack just like almost everyone else.

Speaking of maps, how about all of those maps I see in the testing grounds (the ones that i assume get used in Faction play) could they be used as new maps?

Actually looking at them they look like chokepoint alley!

Considering the roadmap which puts new maps in the "beyond july" category, and the fact that they will change the FP map to the new timeline, perhaps even add new factions, and remove some old ones, the chances are good that absolutely nothing will change..

Planets will probably still be pointless dots worth nothing, and our loyalties will mean very little in the grand scheme of things..

The two things that will change are:

1) Incursion instead of assault in FP (yaay, they DO listen!)

2) Random Invasion mode instead of phases.. no more perma-siedge!
