Greetings MechWarriors. Today I have a simple question. Would PGI allow us, the players, to create a UI overhaul mod for colorblind support, more details, etc as long as it in no way gives us ANY benefit in terms of gameplay, beyond having that extra information on screen?

We're technically permitted to have sound mods, albeit in more of a "Don't tell us, we won't ban you" type of deal. Would this mod break anything in the ToS?*

*I do not condone, support or suggest that such a mod be created and I am not legally responsible if anyone should be inspired by this proposal and create a mod on their own time. This thread is meant to be fully in line with and respect the CoC and ToS of MechWarrior:Online, PGI, and our Dark Master, Russ.

Nobody knows? Again. I do not condone, suggest the creation of or in any way endorse something that could potentially, maybe, be against the TOS.

I think if we all just keep buying Mech Packs, every single thing we have ever wanted or been promised for MWO will be delivered by PGI.

Because PGI cares about what we need, deeply appreciates the income we provide them, and are driven to fulfill our dreams.

You should be asking PGI via email.

I think that, as long as the UI did not give you a competitive advantage over other players in actual matches, then PGI wouldn't care about it.

I notice there's been no concern from them about the many sound packs now in circulation.

Note also that PGI once planned to release an API that would have enabled us to access our Mech inventories from outside the client. However, like so many of their plans, it never came to fruition, and the dev who had talked about providing it left PGI.

UI is Scaleform and Scaleform is lag. People could either optimize UI's to be less bulky, more precise and make game run faster or if they would really care, they could create more eyecandy by making different custom UI presets for each mech, so dependent on machine we run, it would all look different inside. So yep, I'm all for it.

Of course you could do such modifications.

When I played World of Warcraft in ca. 1998 I loved the simple UI mods. They let you reposition health and mana bars and resize them

Why do you need permission? Just do it. It's not like they can enforce user end modification anyways...

(it's like all those nude mods for so many different games... probably breached the EULA, but nobody really gave a shat)

And it would be silly to enforce how and where we place HUD elements. (Not to mention, we've been asking for a new firing reticule for ages... I am frankly tired of waiting. We fans might as well just create one and bypass PGI all together. I will even contribute via Patreon if anyone make it a reality)

Exactly why I was wondering if PGI, with their few player online game, would allow this.

With PGI it's better to ask permission than get banned for something like that. Posted Image

Alright. Next question. How does one make a UI mod? How difficult is it?

Any thing that improves the ui/hud for visually or audio impaired people I approve of. Color blind, text color change, font size, front type, just let us do it all.

The UI that we have is extremely basic, almost painfully so. Trying to get PGI to allow any modding or even just trying to convince them to make it more useful or even just a little more meaningful would be an exercise in both futility and frustration.
If a feature doesn't directly make a return on the money invested, it simply won't be addressed.

Feel free to chime in Russ.

I wouldn't mind UI mods myself. I think they bring a ton to the game.

I for one would love to see a UI mod that lets the cockpit screens display functional data (weapon groups and ammo, mech status/paper doll, target status, etc). A lot of the time, the current shape and layout of the HUD gets in the way for me. Tiny tweaks would be nice; being able to resize and reposition HUD elements.

Alternatively, PGI could allow the dashboard and mostly useless cockpit monitors to be shown on external displays like extra monitors or iPads.

Considering I am sitting on a combo simpit/workstation that has 3 iPads and an iPhone on articulated arms, I want my *** damned immersion! Posted Image

In the same manner, I've been tempted to mod the guass charge sfx to have a more audible cue when it's charged or uncharged.
