Where do you like to fight most? What are some of your favourite areas for engagement? Where is it... the most fun?

I'll start,

Caustic Valley, north/northeast (B5,C5)
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...lley&m=skirmish
This sulphurous/volcanic spring area is just cool. It's mostly flat, but there are plateaus that subtly vary the elevation, and the sulphur rocks break up sightlines and provide cover. So if you manage to get an engagement with another mech inside this terrain without any interruptions from outside, it's really neat. But that's just the problem... the tall rim of the caldera has line of sight to just about every bit of this terrain, so you *will* get interrupted by mechs from the outside, and that makes this a place you don't want to fight in... which is unfortunate.

Sulphurous Rift, E7
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...ands&m=invasion
This area is pretty much identical to the area I described in Caustic Valley. And that's why I like it. This area has the benefit of not having a tall-*** caldera overseeing the whole region, but ... it's a dropzone, so you only fight there when there's dropships involved, and that's unfortunate because the bumpy terrain and tall sulphur rocks for cover make for a neat engagement area.

Grim Plexus, H5
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...muth&m=skirmish
I hate the majority of this map. But this region is largely flat-ish, with nice undulations, and the vertical pillars offer plenty of good cover. You can ridge-peek here, you can side-peek, you can brawl, you can do midrange, it all works. This area is ... unsurprisingly, really similar to the sulphurous areas I described above.

Terra Therma, the entire map
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...orld&m=skirmish
Okay, so what I don't like about this map is the layout - there's big chokepoints leading toward the middle from every direction, so you end up with entire teams fighting at chokepoints more often than not. But if you get to fight literally anywhere except for the middle of the map? It's fantastic and I love it. H7 is a really cool area, but so is D7 and E6. I really like the F4 region, but nobody goes there because it's out of the way. =[

Forest Colony, the forest part F7/G7
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...lony&m=skirmish
What I like about this area is there is a north-south-aligned ridge dividing it into two sides. And from both the east and west sides you can back up and trade across the ridge at a distance, or you can charge straight over and brawl. The ridge isn't really a ridge per se, but a consequence of the undulating terrain in the area. But what really makes this area great, is there are large trees scattered throughout, and they make great cover for side-peeking mechs, so really any kind of mech can fight in this area. I just wish it wasn't so small, I wish we had a map that comprised entirely of just this forest terrain. Oh, and the part I don't like about this area is there is a tall plateau, the northwest corner of H7. You know what I'm talking about. It overlooks the entire forest area, so fighting in the forest area isn't really that safe as a result. Just like what happened with Caustic Valley... a really fun area to fight is ruined by there being a powerful vantage point overlooking the entire region. Blegh.

River City, F8
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...city&m=skirmish
Holy crap if you get into a fight in these tight alleys between buildings, it's bloody exciting. I want more of this.

Polar Highlands, everywhere EXCEPT THE CENTER
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...ands&m=skirmish
The center of this map... like so many MWO maps... ruins the entire map. If the center of this map was the same terrain as the rest of the map, with all the Hoth-esque trenches, this map would be absolutely fantastic. And indeed, when you get a Conquest match on this map and people largely avoid the center because there's no capture points in the middle... it's great!

Forest colony had several green pools tucked away behind a hill where the river runs. They are beautiful to look at.

Alot of nice artwork is wasted on several maps, unfortunately.

There's nothing quite like a street fight in the city part of River City. Just an amazing brawl that you don't really get anywhere else in MWO.

Canyon Network is one of my favorite maps, all things considered. I just wish we had a *lot* more actual desert maps. Tourmaline is... Also a desert, but I like it a lot less.

Old Caustic and Forest - the settings were just awesome, just way too small once 12v12 hit.

Bog - just looks cool.

Alpine/Polar - if those maps were somehow combined it would feel really MW (not really the huge mountains at the center so much, but the smaller ones from around it from Alpine with the rolling/trench largeness of Polar.

Vitric Forge; Amongst all the buildings and around the craters outside the gates.

HPG; On the ring just bellow the top floor.

Alpine Peaks: The Outpost (G10-G12) consisting of several buildings, entrances and terasses. To bad you get sniped from the mountaintop.

Terra Therma is actually awesome everywhere except for the center. SO much work went into making this looking like a hostile place, and it shows.

Hellebore springs riverbeds have a nice look and interesting fights with the cover of trees and canyons on their side.
The deep canyons right before the defenders dropship zone are fun too.

Vitric Forge: The entire crater area in front of the base. Different paths and elevation, cover from the crater ridges but none at all inside them.

Crimson straight: Street fights in D7/E7.

I like the desert terrain, but unfortuantely Tourmaline Desert doesn't really "feel" like a desert. I think it'd be pretty neat to have a map of a ruined city buried in sand, maybe also with sandstorm weather conditions. Dunno if that could affect sensors or not since rain doesn't seem to though.

Terra Therma I-9.

Why?
1- because it is old terra therma center, and it's cool that PGI left this in the game.
2- if you can get pugs to go along with grouping up and staying put, then the enemy is forced into 3 possible choke points. With guidance and patience 12 noobs can tackle an enemy 12 man here.

Forest Colony E-7

Why?
1- because it is next to impossible to get the team there, but if it works you have unobstructed firing lines.
2- because I like the beach.

Any place thick with buildings: Crimson, River City, Mining Colony.
Also I like any place with channels, divots, craters and anything to stay under LoS for repositioning and concealment.

A simple thing can be done to make Terra Therma much more popular. Its not going to win "I want a cold map because I am in a laser boat" votes, but you can still increase the number of votes for it to make the map end up being played more frequently.

That is, to turn the daylights on with this map.

This.

Also in addition.

The area around Sulfurous Rift outside of the defending base especially around the A and B gate areas to the attacking team's spawn.

All of Polar Highlands.

New Forest Colony around the water

Old River City, everyone fighting in the water, and the old upper city pass the span bridge.

Inside the base area, Grim Portico.

Old Forest Colony, the water area where the small island and the giant tree stump is.

Alpine, the area where the radio tower and the mining platform is.

This is my favorite terrain NOT in MWO but would be Hellacious if it is! I always thought of this as a perfect mech battleground.

White Rock Castle, War Thunder.

I like canyon network. One of the few remaining maps not (yet) made wore by pgi's re-work. It's got good mix of cover and open area for all three types of play styles so no matter if you are lrm guy, sniper guy or brawl guy you will get to fight the way you want.

It's even better if you have a mobile team that shoots on the run.

The Mining Collective and River Colony are two I like.

River is difficult to play, I think, but I like that it's a lot of forest and if anything, I would hope we get some more forest maps.

The Mining Collective I mostly like for the many buildings mixed with small but reasonably open spaces where mechs can congegrate to shoot each other or people outside the area.
