I must admit, I only just now became aware of the fact that Artemis is not actually active without line of sight....BUT is there anything in the HUD at all which lets you know that you have that line of sight and that its working/active on the current volley?

you have few features of artemis. Quicker lock and reduced spread are working always. Tracking strength +50% (ability to change traectory) is working only in LOS.
In LOS you lock square can have cross in the middle (indicating that you can target direct fire weapons), when you hit target you get for small moment red cross in the red square.
I would think that if you like lrms, first two features should weight much more than anything else.tracking strength is important only against very fast targets. Then indeed you should come to the optimal 300-350m distance and try to see your target all the time.
Cheers.

He did say it, he also claimed it was "always." Which it isn't supposed to be, but one way to find out is to not lock, fire, and lock, fire, and lock no LOS, fire.

Far as SRMs it's pretty hard for them to differentiate line of sight on 'what' without a lock mechanic.

You used to be able to visually see it because rather than wildly flying through the air, they did a double helix DNA-style twister spiral.

You know, back when missiles were cool. Posted Image

No I am not, try to shoot over hill with artemis and without (private ground will be free now so everybody can do it, or you can get locks by poptarting in the training ground), you get 15-30%, depending on the type of the missile rack and size of the mech you shoot at, reduction in the amount of missiles necessary for mech destruction. Spread reduction is permanent in the case of artemis. In real QP it translate into same 15-30% extra damage coming from artemis lrms.
