It's an old name for Faction Play, back in it's first iteration when it was called "Community Warfare"

...Incursion is not better than Assault.
It's one of my least liked modes in MW:O. That and Escort.

I'm glad you like assault, so does my GF, but let's face it.. there's nothing you can do in Assault that you can't do in Incursion, but more..
Incursion is a direct upgrade of assualt, and you can play it the same way.. considering that assault is basically skirmish with a "callback" function, incursion is played the same way.. we all slug it out, than scratch the base on 90% of drops.. Only rarely does anyone take note of the base..
But when they do, it's alot more fun and more profitable to destroy the Incursion base, than to cap the assault base.. Sure, there's turrets that shoot you, but that's fun..

Incursions encourages people to ignore fighting and just go for the base. That's an incredibly boring style of gameplay for many people, especially since you can't pick a loadout for the mode in QP. Dropping into incursion on polar with a slow mech is just frustration.
Speak for yourself. I find objective type play incredibly fun and engaging, exactly cose' its not just mindless shooting and stomping. I've noticed that younger generations like the mindless shooting, while we older gamers like to keep things tactical and objective oriented.. I guess its a generation gap..
Dropping into incursion on Polar with a Direwolf is boring cose' most direwolves are set up for HPG close-quarters dakka brawling. Put LRM's and ERLL's on it and it will be alot more fun. Not every engagement is gonna be exactly what you want it to be. This is why the Clans lost Tukyyid in the Lore, because they were expecting engagements suited to them, and were engaged tactically, out of their element.
That's why mixed builds are best for me.. cose' you've always got something to shoot, on every map, be it Polar or HPG..
