As in my previous post on what needs to be eliminated from FW....The forums have spoken again...and something needs to be add to FW to save the mode....

(Again...much satire and hyperbole intended)

To save FW from becoming an abandoned inner-city basketball court (which is secretly an ice arena...just to troll the elementary school players that come over to get savagely beat down by college players ) that nobody plays on anymore..... PGI should add the following:

1. tier-based solo queues, tier-based group queues and an open lobby. I have dubbed this the "10 queues of fairness" and "the open lobby of equity"...I think these are a catchy titles although the "10 buckets of fairness" might be better actually and I initially wanted to go with "the open lobby of hiding"...but that sounded too negative.

I will let the forums decide on the best names

Anyway...with this simple, easy to code system no one has to fear playing anyone better than them. When you combine the open lobby element to the tier based queue, it gets even better. This way, if you even think it might be risky to play a certain player (of your tier) because you think he might actually be better than you....you can just de-select him/her and you are safe! Think of the heartache and tears saved....think of the people who will flock to the mode with this in place.

Now, I know what your thinking with the 10 queues of fairness and the open lobby of equity, will matches get actually get made???...,or will we just wait in the lobby of equity waiting for 24 people of the same tier to agree to play each other...vs. waiting and hoping for more beatable (worse) players/ teams to show up. It won't be a problem...and I am sure Oceanic time zones work out fine...just fine.

Anyway...Really matchmaking is besides the point...but I can assure you I have no worries. With all the new players coming into the mode it will all work itself out

Right! And when the teams at the top of the leaderboards find themselves getting X-ed out of the cue simply because they're better than everyone else, they can call for a Trial of Possession against PGI, win, and seize control of the company AND the game servers!

I don't know why they don't just crank up the rewards -even for a loss- so as to make it so enticing to play that even the seals don't mind being curb stomped. It worked for Tukayidd. Keep that up. More population playing and more people who might stick around long enough to git gud and maybe join a unit and play regularly.

Welp, if they don't/won't do that then give the Marquis' plan a shot. I vote "Big Bucket of End Game Fairness...it aint an end game and it aint getting any fairer but it is a bucket" and call it good.

Bigger rewards to take lumps in the mode works like a charm to get people to show up Bud...PGI has figured this out (there now seem to be payoffs of substance during FW events or FW elements of larger events). So, it works...Tuk is the prime example.

However, this does nothing to help the hurt feels of new (or just bad) players in the mode. Getting better and working with a group (or unit) is hard and takes time...some folks just want to Leroy Jenkins in the mode and still have a chance to do well. They must be accommodated or they won't stick around and then they will just bulldoze those Rucker park b-ball courts and we can't have that....or maybe they will bulldoze PGI's servers(which might be deserved actually with the lag issues lately).....people have used so many analogies on this topic lately that it gets confusing.

Anyway, the forums are demanding the actions I have summed up.

Why should you be rewarded if you lose?

Holy crap, this is a brief from PGI? I almost went "Who came up with this idea? This is brilliant!" Then I went 'wow...why didn't they implement this?'

None at all. But if the issue is really the perceived "unfairness" of bads getting stomped because they refuse to play as a team, then there is nothing you can do to change that. That leaves trying to entice them to play so that the population remains viable. Tuk showed one way go get those numbers up, and that was by throwing good rewards at both the winners and the lossers. If the status quo is fine atm, then there is no need for such rewards. Is it fine?

But, with that system in place, couldn't some of the nba pro teams, especially the ones run by managers of dubious morality, just opt out of fighting anyone who they deem "not a seal"?

And would that not lead to scrupulous players creating alternative identities to pose as seals so they still get easy matches?

That is the beauty of this system. No one has to play anyone they deem any sort of challenge...unless they want to. I know that in theory this could bring matchmaking to a grinding halt, as even average players might only look for players worse than themselves to fight (human nature of wanting to win and all that)....however the forums assure me this will not be the case...that matchmaking will be fine and that the solo queue population problems of FW 3.0 will not be re-lived. They can't see any possibility they could be wrong, so they must be correct.

Yes....it seems to be an obvious hole in my proposal....however, my proposal is really just an amalgamation of other proposals out there and I have seen no proposal out there that solves the problem you pose (of tier 1 players creating new tier 5 Alts...to play worse players). So, if those wanting changes aren't that worried about this, who am I to argue.

It's funny how often the FP crowd says "We're only here for the good battles" and yet also "split queues mean FP players will just create alts to play the bads".

It's almost like you guys think a lot of FP players are only here for the seal-clubbing.

There aren't many games I can think of that feature advanced, geared-up, organized, team players fighting against noobsquads on a regular basis and somehow calling that 'end-game' content and a system that shouldn't be changed.

There aren't any examples I can think of anywhere where that sort of interaction leads to progression and development of a new generation. (Not in a niche market, anyway.)

Personally, I had some number-crunching conversations with a few people who play WoT, some MOBA's, and some other MMO's that are mainly PvE but have some PvP queues. With the 'hard core FP' population numbering around 5,000, and the 'potential drop-ins' numbering around 12,000, the general feeling was that there was simply no viable way to get decent matchmaking results with a split queue. The population would need to be roughly double that (10,000 regulars, 20,000 dropins).

Since doubling the population isn't in the cards with a mode that is highly unwelcoming to newcomers, and further FP development isn't going to be a priority with only 5,000 regulars, we can basically shelve all the conversation about what to do with it.

It is what it is, a playground for 5k players to stomp anyone who sticks their head in to have a look-see, while some 'somewhat fair' matches representing an actual challenge will occasionally happen at random. And that's the way it's gonna stay.

It is possible to create a single-queue MM for FP which would somewhat alleviate the match imbalances, but it's tough to say how much impact it would have without a higher population (assuming that non-event populations are considerably lower than the 5k/12k numbers).

You better start a thread on the topic then! Seems that is the way to get things done these days.

heres my quasi serious with some hyperbole for the hell of it list:

victory pay for everyone! free mc for all! you win a match, you make 1 mc. you get 2x pay if your side wins for the phase. because mc for units only is elitest.

make freelancer the noob/casual mode. give them a ranking tree and make them complete it before they can become a merc or loyalist. limit them to space fill for teams with at least a group of 4 and never against a team of 8 or more.

honor pay. let the seal clubbers opt to make things more sporting, do an in game vote where you can pick how many mechs you want to use, 1-4. you get 25% more lp/rp/cbills/xp per mech you opt to leave behind.

under tonnage bonus. so that players that bring all locust drop decks less stuff get more bonuses.

use group queue tonnage rules for groups. this would also balence out pugs by giving them more tonnage so they can bring stupid 4 lerm atlas drop decks and be easier to kill harder to kill. also unit members can specialize and share tonnage. dedicated assault pilots and dedicated squirrels.

mixed tech drop decks for mercs, though with severe tonnage penalties for using out of contract mechs. this serves no reason what so ever other than to piss off purists make people happy.

activate the old skool long tom whenever there is a seal vs unit situation, just have it indiscriminately bombard the map throughout the entire match. nuke the entire place from orbit its the only way to be sure. the objective is to end the game as quicly as possible so everyone can wait in line for 15 minutes and roll again, maybe get a better match.

ban anyone who whines, ragequits, or walks out of bounds from fp until they can learn to put up and shut up. they would then be forced to have teams that are entirely tier5 and only be put in games against t1s, for 3 months. and they would have to play 10 games a day for that day to count.

Mmmm...salty... although this really could have used the obligatory reference to not wanting the play Kcom or Evil anymore.

Incursion is clearly the answer. Escort mode would probably be a nice fit as well.
Square pegs with square holes etc.

It can be the Yucca mountain of MWO.

FW just needs a play now button with IS, Clan or both checkboxes. IDGAF with whom I drop I just want to drop fast or at all. Also I have learned to not GAF about the opposing team or the game mode. However objectives besides kill em all are nice.

Crap I had a feeling I moved up a tier. No wonder I see so many meta COD non MW players these days.

some other ideas suggested on the forums of late that need to be added to FW:

#2: A magic bubble where you and your team can safely spend the remaining 22 mins. of any match where you lose your first wave 12-0. A place protected from those nasty teams and players that are better than you and that would spawn camp you if they could. It will be a place of sunshine and butterflies...all protected by super-turrets, air strikes and perhaps even a dragon which will eat invading mechs.

#3: a button that raises a white flag out of your mechs backside....the white flag will have the words "I quit, don't shoot" emblazoned on it in all major languages. This is the safe way out of any match that is just not going your way. Your mech will be disabled, but invulnerable for the rest of the match. Thus, preserving your all important k/d...

Eat a sandwich and relax while you watch your teammates desperately struggle to survive, already down mechs, but now down a player...no worries...they will understand, you had better things to do.
