These weapons are not frequently used, but I happen to love running Maulers, especiall the MAL-1R, with 4 LBX-10s. I have run this build 40 times with over 14,000 rounds fired, so I probably have more experience with this weapon than most.
I have noticed is that instead of the LBX ammo causing more criticals, the weapon itself seems more likely to be crited. I have fires 4 rounds or 40 separate slugs into exposed criticals more times than I can remember and I does not seem that I destroy components, engines or weapons any faster than normal. On the other hand soon and my side torso internals are exposed both LBX 10's are destroyed almost immediately. I can only think of one match where a side torso's internals were touched once or twice and only one LBX 10 was destroyed.

Think this might have to do with your loadout versus the loadout of your enemies.
If you boat 4 LB10s, 2 in each side torso probably, there will be next to no room left to put anything else inside it. Meaning that when you armor is gone, every crit either hits an LB10, or an LB10. With the Gauss-PPC-Meta up in everyones face, just one PPC crit from across the map will take out one of your LBs.
On the other hand, if you hit an enemy that is for example laserboating, his sidetorso will likely be filled to the brim with lasers (with very low critspace usage) and heatsinks. Then add the fact that you are essentially firing 40 pebbles at the enemy, with some of those likely missing the exposed component, and every single one of these pebbles rolling for crits with only 2 critial damage, you likely take a few shots to destroy anything. Your crits will spread all over the internal equipment, damaging everything about equally and taking longer to destroy said equipment.
Plus you don't even see if you take out their heatsinks, only weapons and certain equipment will be displayed red on your scans.
Those LB10s should of course work wonders against other ballistic builds, with almost all ballistic weapons taking up most of the components critspace (exception being AC2s).
So I don't think it's a bug, it's just the way these weapons and the game work.

Feel the same to me.
I usa a triple LB10 Dire Wolf and everytime someone shoot to me when my armor is gone and my interiors are yellow, the LB10s are the first weapons that get critted. After some other shots it's time for SSRMs and lasers, but them takes more time.
Sometimes I feel like LB autocannons can be critted faster than gauss rifle, and it sucks, because they're not the best weapon in game and seems to be glass once.
Same for the crit chance of the slugs, internals most times seems to be immune to them...

Simple math.
If you hit an enemy mech...lets say a BlackKnight with your LBXes and he has an open side torso each of your pellts gets a crit roll. You can do mre than one crit with each pellet.
Now all acheaved criticals make a hit roll and determine wich of the 12 critslots are hit.
Engine destroys an engine heatsink not the engine itself.
The named BK has two medlaser a XL engine and 2 doubble heatsinks in its side torso.
3 of your pellets acheaved a crit and two hit two different crits of one heatsink wich is now dmged but not gone and a third hits a laser that too gets some damage....soooo nothing realy hapend you did some struckture dmg and some component dmg.
He returns fire on you and hits you with two LPLs and several medium lasers dealing internal dmg to your side torso.
4 of its several weapons crit and 3 hit crits of the first lbx wich winks out and one the second wich is dmged but still intact.
Notice something?
You packed the torso full of two components while he got several different components in his torso.
So he distributes internal dmg much better than you.
There is something named critpadding...meaning you stuff things into a torso to minimize the chance of crits to certain components.
You did the oposide.
ANY crit on that torso will hit one of your ACs.
