Or do they just take up crit slots and do nothing.

Supposedly they soak crit hits, so they are like a 1 slot heat sink crit padding.. or at least they use to do this.

It's completely and utterly useless, aside from increasing your arm's hitbox. PGI should allow Battlemechs to remove hand actuators. At least that way my IS mechs can fit 3 DHS in an arm. (Clan battlemechs can fit 4 DHS already)

I read somewhere that they increase arm reticle speed. Never verified it though

Don't they increase pitch or yaw for arms

Oh nvm, arms actuators did that, not the hands.

Yes, they make your arm hit boxes bigger.

In the TT, hands are required to pick up external objects. They're great if your mission is to grab something on a raid and bring it back home.

Which means if MWO had been sticking to the lore, then the only mechs that should be able to grab power cells in Incursion should be mechs with hands.

They are modeled after a character's hand in an Adam Sandler movie.

Since the traditional uses are not available, ie, melee., than they should be able to perform some alternate functions.

1. Wave hi to teammates or the enemy.
2. Give the enemy the finger.
3. Produce a white flag to wave in the event you want to surrender or parlay.

Oooooh... implementing emotes into MWO? I like the idea.

Jump in front of the enemy - especially an enemy that's losing badly - and then type /dance.

Edit: So... just how fluidly can a mech move?

I missed one.

Position behind a teammate or enemy to give them rabbit ears for a photo op!

Give mechs with surviving arms greater salvage bonuses at the end of a winning match since they can use their hands to assist in recovery operations.

Or give us melee.

I never thought about the crit padding, but I ask myself "do I want my arms to take hits?" If yes, take hands. If no, remove hands.

Working hands and emotes are found in a different mecha game for another tabletop franchise. There have been numerous suggestions here to have the hands provide a bonus to hill climb as if the Mechs are using them to assist movement up steep terrain, as well as the aforementioned hand actuator requirement suggestion for Incusion fuel cell pickup. Otherwise they would be for melee punches and club attacks using objects picked up, for example the frequently knocked over trees and light posts found on various maps, or the various vehicles sitting around the urban maps. Also for carrying items of a certain weight limit based on individual Mech tonnage.
