Is it just going to be a lance vs lance type of battle, or will there be company sized conflicts going on. And will it have respawns or as i prefer it, if you go down your out till the battle is over.

also, I would love to see my favorite mech come into play, the ENF-5D Enforcer. :o

The devs are aiming for 12 vs 12.

But according to the vids and pics the max size of a battle seems to be 8 vs 8 at the moment, hope this changes over time.

There is a planned battlemode with mech hotdrops, presumably acting as a "limited respawn" gametype. With the way the mech combat is designed right now, having mechs respawn a la halo or modern warfare would not be that fun.

As far as I know it wwill be 12v12.
A lance consistes of four mechs, so there are three lances each team.
It's going to be large.

Currently there is no respawn. Was said several tiems in Dev Interviews, Posts etc. Jus tread up on the Developers Corner Section as well as watch the Videos (especially the interviews).

And for the Enforcer Variant you'll have to wait at least a year. Currently it is 3049 in the game ( 22nd July to be precise) and the game moves on a real-lfie day to day basis. So, sicne the Enfrocer ENF-5D was only introduced in late 3050, you'll have to wait at least until late 2013.
That said; since the enfrocer has onyl one other variant it is rather unlikely that it will be introduced, especially sicne the devs will have their hands full with getting the Clan Mechs into the game.

Why not bring one of the older variants?

I personally hope there could be different modes of play.
CTF? Go full on 20v20. That's five lances each team.
Something like Territories? 12v12.
Team Deathmatch with no respawning? 12v12
Team Deathmatch(Small)? 4v4
Duel rounds: 1v1
Partner Duel rounds: 2v2
Free for all(Large) 28 'mechs total
Free for all(Medium) 12 'mechs total
Free for all(Small) 4 'mechs total.

i read 12v12 so far. i'm not a fan of this mech respawning idea. why? after i just battled my *** off, taking hits from all over, losing an arm or a leg, my mech is burning up, heat sinks done, and your mech is ball of flaming scrap...then bam.. youre in again brand spanking new and im 3/4 dead already....no..

12 v 12 is the typical size combat in the BT univese. Even with large numbers of mechs in a planetary attack/ defense, the actual number of mechs present will be small at any one point unless something is unusal. Think of 2 regiments of mechs (216 mechs total) spread across North America. You will have a very few concentrations of mechs with a lot of outlying places having only a few. The company is the perfect size for classic confrontations.

12v12 is fine with me. Hopefully it won't take too long for them to reach this, if the number right now truly is 8v8. Maybe as the game gets more stable and if there's enough people playing they could add a 16v16?

Although I am sure they will add more game modes. Currently there is 12v12. Also they have mentioned a dropship mode where you basically get to use all or 3(?) or whatever of the mechs in your mech bay. Now that really does sound interesting, When one mech is destroyed you switch to another mech you have.

I would like to see objective driven modes. Like maybe an attack/defense mode. 8 defense with 12 attack. But the defense has some sort of npc help like tanks/turrets/aero fighters or something. Or a mode where if you hold certain navpoints you get certain bonuses?

Yup.. they've said a lot of times that 12v12 is going to be the "standard" but right now they are using 8v8 battles for testing purposes. Also they've said a lot of times that while there are only 2 game modes set for release, there will be many more to come once things settle down. I'm sure they've even finished some of the modes but just want to get the rest of the game polished and "out there" first before changing things up too much. It's still beta.. and will be for a while yet.

12 v 12 makes sense to me. Anything less (the 8v8 that's being preferred in beta from everything I've read) removes the strategy element. What great strategies can you employ with a mere two lances? Personally I'd like to see the option of battalion-level battles (for merc-vs-merc) but that might not be feasible in the engine.

I'd be very surprised if it goes over 12v12. While massive mech battles would be cool, the lag would make the epic battle unplayable.

I would like to see 4v4, 12v12, and 36v36 as the battle sizes.

I don't care about the size of the fight, I want to know the size of the battlefield. How long will it take to cross the map? With jumpjets? Where will the spawns be? Things like this are important to me.

So far Dev's have stated:

4 v 4 (single life matches)

12 v 12 (4v4 with 3 lives per team mate)

12 v 12 (true 12 v 12 with 1 life per team mate).

"How long will it take to cross the map? With jumpjets?"

unless you've got some pretty amazing jumpjets you're not gonna cross the whole map with them, no matter how big or small it is

"Lives" is an incorrect term. Your talking about Dropship Mode, in this mode you have the mechs in your mech bay to redeploy in. So if you have two assaults, a medium, and a light...that is it. Each time a mech is KO'd it does not return magically. So if you have deployed your assaults and the medium...your left with running around in the light.

Edit: Your also limited to four mechs. SO if your a founder, you can have up to 8 to choose from (if you did not buy additional bays), but get only four deployments.
