With the announcement of the Osiris & Nightstar two of the mechs from this Inner Sphere strong mech list have been released. What Light & Assault should take their spot in this top 3 strong IS mechs per weight class?

Are there any mechs you'd replace? If yes, what would you choose? This video has all the mechs that are already on the list
https://youtu.be/QKJBR8MkKuQ

Fafnir & Saggitaire are on the list for assaults. Razorback & Mongoose for lights.

Replacement Light of choice:
Nexus, 25t, JJ or ECM, energy HPs
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Nexus

Assault of choice:
Gunslinger, 85T, ECM & JJ, Ballistic & Energy. (There were others but this one offers a different 85 tonner)
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Gunslinger

What would you guys choose? These or something else? Remember, strength in MWO is the primary criteria.

(Yes maps, etc are important but discussing mechs is still fun)

Not going to comment on Lights, not my cup of tea.

Assaults, Sagittaire or Fafnir. Gunslinger arms would be a tiny bit above waist high in the pose MWO uses, really limiting builds.

Thats gotta be pure vanity for that one. There are so many LRM chassis already. Night Gyrs, Super novas, Awesomes, Maulers, Vultures, Catapults, archers, soon to be Nova Cats, Arctic wolfs...

Other than that it won't offer anything different than any of the pre-existing mechs unless is god quirked.

Looks cool though.

Check the video. Fafnir and Sagittaire are already in the Top3. The third one was the Nightstar. Now that it has been announced, its place is vacant.

Assault: Gunslinger, Viking, or Cerberus.

Light: Spector.

I know the "it's a 35t Mech, it will be huge"-caveat. However, the Spector is a short and bulbous design, not a tall and lanky Mech like the Wolfhound or Panther. High engine cap, JJ, lots of energy hardpoints, and ECM make this Mech very powerful.

PS: you may want to clarify in the OP that Fafnir, Sagittaire, Razorback and Mongoose are already on the list.

Well this isn't a whats wanted list but rather a selection of strong mechs so the Hollander is cool and all but it's not a potentially strong mech in any way.

They all devolve into a wants list anyway, I'm just saving a few pages of reading Posted Image

So if the Fafnir is off the list (because it's already *on* the list), let's see...

It really has to be the Legacy
Spoiler

Look at those beautiful mounts! It brings a tear to my eye. Bonus point for a version each with Ballistic, Missile and Energy weapons in those torso mounts.

As an alternative and to introduce Is OmniMechs, how about the Hauptmann ?
Spoiler

Yes, the cigar needs to go, but should make a half-decent weapons platform.

Legitimately good IS mechs?

I'd add the Gunslinger. 4 shoulder-height energy and one head mounted suggest it would be strong pending the energy change. Jump jets and arm-mounted ballistics differentiate it from the Battlemaster.

Longbow is another potentially strong pick, but I think it depends a little too much on how good MRMs are, and how hard its hardpoints are inflated- in the best case it becomes an entire chassis worth of CP-10-Qs. For what it's worth, I think it's the most likely next IS assault.

Spoiler

I'd replace Fafnir with the Berserker. After the Annihilator I don't think there is enough in the Fafnir to justify a third ballistic-heavy 100t for IS.

Berserker offers shoulder energy mounts, MASC. Essentially many of the advantages of the Executioner (and Battlemaster and Banshee) without the disadvantages of being on Omnimech. It would be a significant departure from the other three IS 100t mechs, with known strengths.

Spoiler

As for lights, there aren't many good options, and it would really just be adding flavor. I think the Raptor would offer some variation at 25t, which has been occupied by only the Commando since closed beta.

A slower (118kph), but more heavily-armed 25t omnimech with up to 8 energy hardpoints.

Spoiler

The issue with the Legacy is it's STs are totally exposed sitting well above the arms but it's mounts would make it decent but strong I don't think so.

The Hauptmann has a locked std engine plus weapon bulge problems. It'd be just okay unless heavily quirked.

Well the Fafnir isn't really the same as the Anni plus it has much more potential. Better shape, mounts, ECM, HP's & faster. It's also an extremely important design in the FedCom.

Fafnir is vastly overrated. Some other IS assault mechs that may do well;

Albatross; High mounted shoulder weaponry. Arms are not too low slung. Although, only having "13 tons" of armor may make it a bit squishy.
Spoiler

Marauder II; An Inner Sphere upgrade to the Marauder, making it 100 tons with Atlas levels of armor. Both the Marauder and Marauder IIC do really well in game, so there isn't a reason this one wouldn't. Plus, there is a variant with a RL 180 stock for a nice ~200 damage splat.
Spoiler

Rampage; Lots of missile hardpoints for mass splat. MASC capable. Cockpit level energy hardpoints. This one has the potential to be very meta.

Why would those 3 be better than the Fafnir. Also don't forget MWO mechlab.

That isn't really the point- the point is that we already have two 100t ballistic mechs- both the King Crab and Annihilator have covered the bases, and the Fafnir would really only really be a minimal variation on those.

There isn't any sort of profound amazing quality about it that puts it dramatically ahead of anything that we'd already have- it might be marginally better than the Annihilator if it gets good hitboxes and hardpoints- I would definitely disagree that it has a good torso shape (or good enough to make it hands-down better than the Annihilator). The biggest advantage- engine size, is lost since the desync unless you really think PGI is going to give it the agility to be a wicked amazing brawler, and not treat it like yet another mid-range fire support assault that's slow as **** in every way.

The Fafnir is a total crowd favorite and I have no doubt it'll be added, but this thread is about contenders for certifiably "strong mechs", and the Fafnir has far too many ifs, ands, or maybes to really even enter it into the discussion.

Maybe I'll put it this way: what makes you think the Fafnir is a good mech?

Valkyrie would be nice, but it's basically a smaller, slower Assassin. Maybe the Dart?

Vulcan would be interesting, just to see what the MWO mechanical design would be. TT art for it is lanky as f***.

Anvil or Bandersnatch.

Grand Titan.
