Dont know if it was suggested before, but i suggest making so that when mech with clan xl engine loses side torso, it generates a certain amount of heat, lets say for example 40% (of course it can be any other value). That way losing half torso mid fight will be much more critical, making clan xl feel less than just lighter standard, and clan pilots will have to care more about protecting their side torsos, while advantage of not dying from losing ST will still remain, just somewhat harder to utilize, because you would have to ether keep your mech cool on TS loss moment, or pop a cool shot, or survive trough overheat. Also this rule can be applied to upcoming light fusion engine, and should help standard engines be more valuable in terms of engine balance.

Well, some months ago the clan XL was nerfed. Since then, loosing a side torso means loosing 80% of the engine's heatsinks, before it was (methinks) only 60% loss. That means that a shoulder gone now gets the mech close to overheat, and every shot with a small weapon generates so much heat that the DPS is reduced to being ridiculous. So, I don't know if it was suggested before, but something like that was done before. <sarcasm>Thanks for asking.</sarcasm>
