I mean, I got in it after I watched a guide on YouTube. And I understood, I wouldn't play MWO anymore. Because you now gotta make a lot of choices about, what way to build your certain mech. And then test it. And if you did it wrong, you'd have to rethink and do it again. And then test it. And then think it over and rebuild it again. And then test it. And then... yeah, sorry I don't have any time for this ****, I just wanna play a few games... I mean, I don't wanna play them anymore, **** it all.

You don't have to mess with the skill tree at all. It is not a requirement to drop in a match! If after a couple matches you think that there is an area that your mech could benefit from improvement, go find that area in the skill tree. I don't know why so many people stress and whine about it as if you cannot just ignore it and play.

...okay, I may need to elaborate on that. I'm terrible with the skill tree. But I just outsource my skill tree builds to another player I know who's good with it. And I'm (slowly) learning how to make generalized, not super efficient, skill builds for mechs without any hassle. Honestly, all you gotta do is ask yourself these questions: "What role will my mech be/what ranges will it fight at, and thus do I need range skills at all? Will it be hot? Is it durable, or squishy? Is it agile, or moves like a brick?" With those questions answered, you can pretty easily just decide if you want to fill out a branch, or allocate your points somewhere else.

Made even more funny by the added complaint that it is too hard to figure out or a requirement to play the game casually. I mean seriously, the poster child for "first world priviledge" just self identified with a bang.

10 points Sensors for Radar Derp 60%.
9 points Operations for the first flare of Cool Run and Heat Containment.
23 to 29 points Survival for armor and structure.
Rest is a few points consumables and firepower matching your weapons.
Should take you a few minutes tops.
It's not witchcraft.

7 point sensors for 40% radar derp
5 points operations going right for 2 improved gyros, a heat containment and a cool run
Fastest way to full speed tweak
If mech has armor quirks, left side of armor/structure tree
If mech has structure quirks, right side
If laser boat, all but one heat gen nodes and all laser duration nodes
If missiles, missile racks, velocity, range, cooldown
If ballistics, magazine capacity, velocity, range, cooldown
Whatever is left over goes to what you wanna enhance
Edit: And of course a point in consumables, unless you want arty strikes, then 3

That doesn't make sense. Your OP says you don't have time for all that, which means you don't have to nerdout on the tree. If it's really too hard for you to think about it, then just max out mobility, sensors, and operations (maybe the consumable stuff if you like using consumables) and call it good. No thought required, and it will be similar to how things were before

Everything else is up for grabs depending on what you want your mech to do and how you want to play it. Jump Jet tree is good for anyone wanting to maximize their jump mobility, Sensors are good for scouts and LRM boats (being able to hold locks longer increases your chances of actually firing and landing your LRMs on target), and even brawlers (Seismic Sensors). Mobility is good for fast movers or anyone wanting to eke out every bit of maneuvering performance in their mech.
Frankly, the Firepower tree is the LAST tree I put any points into, and regardless of role or mech, I usually have enough points left to take around half the nodes in it.
Also, the Firepower Tree has a certain logic to how it's laid out. Missile specific nodes are on the left. Ballistic nodes are on the right. Energy nodes are more or less center and spread out. Range and Cooldown nodes are always useful regardless of what weapons you have so they're used as the low value bridge nodes to get to the nodes you want without having to take any nodes that are useless to your current build. For example, there's no need to get Velocity nodes if you're running a pure laser vomit build for example; you can get EVERY heat gen and laser duration node in the Fire Power tree without having to touch a single node that's useless to a laser vomit build... as long as you have enough SP of course.
