I'm switching a few IS mechs off of LPL or laser vomit builds in favor of ERLL builds, this month. Next month, assuming 3060 tech drops on schedule, I will probably then switch many of those ERLL builds to LPPC builds, since that's an easy 1:1 swap. I don't think I'm completely done with IS LPLs, but instead of using them as a primary weapon, I will probably pair them with clusters of MPLs, when hardpoints and tonnage make it inappropriate to just add another MPL.
Really, the damage nerf on LPLs is indicative of PGI having forgotten why LPLs had their damage boosted to eleven in the first place. Nobody thought that ten-damage LPLs were worth seven tons, when nine-damage (ER)LLs were available for five tons. Granted, the damage buff turned IS LPLs into one of the best weapons in the game, but a simple rollback doesn't seem like the solution. Oh well. I guess it will be "closely monitored."

With the new changes youd have to be pretty dumb to use LLs, since ERLLs have the same duration now - cooldown is functionally irrelevant to energy weapons, since they are heat limited as a rule.
Im not sure the nerf to the LPL is that much of a killer... it was the standout best energy weapon on IS, possibly in the game after the C-SPL giganerf, so its probably still fine.

The duration loss is making people definitely reconsider it, along with the damage loss of the CLPL. Not to mention that since IS ML was buffed for heat, in closing ranges they can alpha more (despite the loss to IS LPL damage).
What's a more likely option is to drop some engine weight on the MAD IIC to accommodate 6 MPL and 2 LPL. I'm considering 6 MPL 2 ERLL, losing a heat sink slot in the engine and making up for it with open slots, but again I think the duration is an issue.
Though 7 MPL is interesting. I wonder how the ghost heat adds up... like 48 heat? Not bad.
From what I can tell 2 LPL 6 ML was people saying "damn the heat, more alpha," and that losing heat sinks for MPL might not bother some people in that line of reasoning.
